| I had been running seti@home for years on my home LAN. The promised aliens haven't exactly arrived yet, so I'm switching over. ![]() Expect to see some popping up on that list in the coming week. I'm building a new high end machine in anticipation to FH2, 2.4gig multi core with an 8800 ought to get close to a PS3 in combination with 3 other comps here. ![]() I think many FH players here have a fairly high end machine, so make sure you get the version that utilizes the GPU as well: >>>Folding@home - Download<<< Let's kick some protein ass!

| How long does it take to show up on the team? I've been Folding for a couple of hours. Do I have to rerun the .exe every time I turn on my PC?

| You'll show up when you finish your first WU. What percentage is done? If you installed fah as a service, you do not need to start it manually when windows starts. Otherwise you have to start it yourself whenever you want to fold. |

| Folding too. ![]() I am also a part of Boinc for Seti@Home. I will split the time i spend on doing that to do both now. BTW: It seems that the GPU including version only supports some ATI cards... so my 8800 GTS won't help...-_-

| I want to think all you guys for folding for the team. We have 12 folders so far and are producing about 2500 Points per day. In a weeks time we have moved to about 11,000 from 87,784 teams folding. That's almost top 10%. According to the stats we should be at about 4400 in 30 days, but I'm optimistic that we'll be much lower than that once we get rolling 100% and get a few more folders in works. Quote:
lol, Your post made me smile. The Bionc project is a good project. I was considering processing for the weather models produced by the same project as seti, but I think we all already know what's happening to our environment and why. The 8800 won't be of any use, but when you get your multi-core computer, you can run the SMP client. it utilizes all cores and gives you a huge "point-per-day" (PPD) advantage. I'm running one SMP client on my trusty old xeon 3.06 dual CPU machine and it downloads a Work Unit (WU) worth 1760 points and it takes about 3 days to do. This works out to about 650 PPD. In comparison the ATI GPU client runs at about 550 PPD and a PS3 runs about 900 - 1000 PPD. A modern Core Duo runs about 1200 PPD and a quad usually gets over 2000 PPD... I see OC'ed Q6600 running 3.0ghz running at about 2600 PPD. That's almost more points per day than what our whole 12 man team is producing right now. I've got 4 clients going right now for about 1500 PPD, but I'm hopfully going to be producing around 5000 to 6000 PPD after the first of the year. I'm updating my office computers from P4's to quad cores and my main machine from the old xeon to either an extreme or dual quad xeons for 8 cores... still deciding on that one since the 45mn extremes are extremely (no pun) hard to get right now. If I give up the extreme for dual xeons, I'd be giving up my chance at SLI since server/workstation boards don't support SLI ![]() Anyway, a good example of point whoring.. looks at Baobab's stats... he's got 3 Work units turned in on SMP. He's #2 and will pass me up in less than a week if he folded full time. He's obviously using the SMP because all 3 WU's gave him 1760 points. He's got total 5280 points. I know he's got more horse-power than I do because he's showing 2 days between WU's and it takes me 3 days to produce a 1760 work unit. |

| Im jealous of your folding skills. Maybe I will steal my housemates computers, tell them to do it in my name and have 15 computers going. YA THEN WHAT. I will be kicking all your asses. Why are things always turned into a competition? |

| Oh, point whoring. It does not sound that good when you say it that way I fold under the baobab nickname. First, I have just an e4400 that I bought for $100 a few months ago. OCed to 3GHz, but I throttle the folding client at 90% (this is part of the advanced options during setup). If I run it at 90% as I do right now, equivalent to a 2.7GHz dual-core, it can generate about 1500 PPD. But I do not run it all the time. During the week I ran it about 50% of the time, in the week-end it was more. Anyway, I am not going to pass you Rad, because I can only generate 1500 PPD if I run the client full-time. It is not really my choice what WUs I get. I would like some shorter ones to be honest. But I get only these 1760 points jobs. True, that I specified they can send me large WUs, but they are sending only these types to me. I have an older P4 machine laying around. I need to install Linux on it at some point and that could create a few points as well. |
