Trainz! I had this idea for a map...it might not be dead on realistic, but I am sure there's somthing similar in reality: Wouldn't a moveable train be cool? With cars? Maybe that Soviet one with the two T-34 turrets on it? Whatever, it doesn't even have to be armed. Nice woodland map...could be US/German or German/Sov but with a TRAIN! I was thinking maybe a track that runs around the map in circular pattern with the flags along the way in small villages. The track would run through or near main bases at opposite ends...maybe with canyons and stuff around the map to make it so the train has to go across some bridges and limits mobility for those folks around the map not on the train. The train itself would be neutral, either side gets it. And it would have to have a whistle. :D I guess you'd need the train, some cars (maybe the flat car with AAA on it)...definitley some box cars to shoot from (spawn points in the train?)...and some way to make it only move on the tracks...I don't know about that... And if its got Sherman's there needs to be at least three...and a rail yard, prefferably with a tunnel, so I can act out my Kelly's Heroes thing. |
Re: Trainz! Well take a look under the german vehicles section on the site..... why what's this? Could those be cars to an armored train?! |
Re: Trainz! I got the Secret Word *SDK* come on the werent Train Battles in WW2 lol |
Re: Trainz! Well, it would be a cool feature and a great way to shuttle supplies from a base to a distant flag (like in the Battle of Korsun) note i do not know if this could be accomplished and still maintain accuracy, BUT it would be a fun feature. |

Re: Trainz! It's funny how few forum-goers have actually gone through, or even visited the FH main site. |
Re: Trainz! WoW! There are cars! Well bully for me then. It's funny how few forum-goers actually care what Captain Bringdown and the Buzzkillers have to say. |
Re: Trainz! Of course there were no train on train battles in WWII. But, trains played a major factor in the war. Especially on the Eastern Front. Any fAnBOi who has been past "I'm cool, I play Bf1942 - WWII for Dummies", and has actually read some personal accounts from soldiers who were actually there..... will know there were armored trains, with t-34 turrets and Panther turrets, for a reason. Partisan fighters routinely attacked Nazi trains (hence armed rail cars). Russian armies regularly attacked the same trains too (read Tigers in the Mud by Otto Carius - know who he is?) He descibes accounts like three seperate times of disembarking trains with his Tiger under Soviet attack. Rest assured the germans attacked soviet ones too. Squadmates aside, I think it is a good idea for something differant in the GAME. A lot of posts in a gaming forum don't mean shi*t. Reading a WWII related website centered on a game does not eaither. Know your fuc*ing history before you wan't to flame somebody over a new angle on the same tired bullsh*t. Least' then your kiddie babble with have some substance to it. Unprevoked flaming because you know jack shi* about REAL WWII history discredits yourself, and whatever site allows it.... :Censored: |

Re: Trainz! what abort Angry Anzio that was a artilleri gun mounted on a train. :mepimp: |
Re: Trainz! It would be nice if you made it a "ambush" map. The Germans would have to blow up the tracks or a bridge before a long train with Russian armour passes it on it's way to uhm.. Kursk for example? Russian paratroopers would have to stop the Germans from blowing up the track. |
Re: Trainz! What is the map going to be of? |
Re: Trainz! hmmm, well I don't remember the story exactly but if you can't have the trains moving maybe have a train station where tigers are being unloaded? 2 spawnable tigers the rest for show on the train, with maybe a workable turrent. The goal is to destroy the train/capture the flag. of the train sation. in a small town I beleive. |
Re: Trainz! German armored trains were really the premier and most widely used of the armored trains. And the germans also had.. :deal: ..railguns...including the biggest gun ever made..I would litterally pass out and drown in my own saliva if they added "Dora" into this game.... http://www.cix.co.uk/~nrobinson/rail...ra%20index.htm |
Re: Trainz! oh god Dora..... but what about Gustav? It holds the record of the biggest rail gun in exsistance, Suddam was building a bigger one in the first gulf war was destroyed before completion. was built between 1937 and 1942 (finished) Fired 7 ton amour peircing shellss and 5 ton high explosive shells. Class name is Kanone I beleive 80 CM calibre, length is about 43 meters with a barrel length of about 32.5 meters. Weighed about 1350 tons. It was seen in Lennigrad and fired about 50 shells. in combat 300 total. *has my book right here* Edit: I should have clicked the link! lol. I am talking about the same gun. lol |
Re: Trainz! Yes, and it never fired at Leningrad. It fired 48 combat shots, look at the site. |
Re: Trainz! ah, my book says about 50, and was prepared for leningrad but Zittedele failed. it did fire them on the russian front. On June 5th of 42 to destory some costal fortresses. I think three books would help this team. Great Battles of WW2, Allied Weapons of WW2 and German Weapons of WW2. One gives great maps, the other two give you the normal weapons and special weapons of the war for both sides, air, naval and ground. I like the tiger page the best, and if they wanted to make a tank battle where the tiger can be destroyed in one shot in the front the Sherman Firefly could do it at 1750 meters, though the Tiger could destroy them at 1800 meters. |
Re: Trainz! There are several Normandy and Northwest Europe maps in the works so expect lots of tank battles. |
Re: Trainz! ah good, hmmm *looks up greatest tank battle in history* |
Re: Trainz! That would be Kursk. |

Re: Trainz! yup you are right it is. I think we need a new kursk map. |

Blow away a whole enemy base with 1 shot ? Now that is a definition of base raping  I think superheavy railgun weapons are a bit unwieldy to use, and very vulnerable in bf1942 scale maps....the maps are too small to represent 18 km and up distances these weapons fired, and enemies won't take long to get to where that huge gun is.....under a minute in most current size maps..... But the germans used smaller railguns too, that were converted naval guns. They could fire in any direction after reasonable short preperation time. Enemies would have to search for it down the entire rail line, would be nice if that line had tunnels too. Now there are battleships in FH so that damage is more acceptable i think. |
Re: Trainz! well maybe could be a scout thing, with a timer, and maybe only a few shots for the map total. Like you scout where the shot will land or around that, and after 100 seconds if you are still alive the shot is fired. Though I just think that gun would be more of a object to be destroyed if placed in a game. |

Re: Trainz! The Germans had a smaller 8-inch cannon nicknamed the Berlin Express or something like that. They attempted to push it up to a front in Russia by building tracks under fire. A map could include the gun (which was moved as far as possible, way close to the action) and the unfinished tracks being assaulted by the Russians. Also, Hailar has some tracks on it, as does Stalingrad. The boxcar and track skins already exists! How about that? |
Re: Trainz! I think the train models are meant as static objects on the maps with the possibility of maybe hopping in and using whatever weapon is on it. But I'm almost certain theyre not there to make a moving train.. |
Re: Trainz! My only "thought" here was really a map with a moving train on it. 'twould be cool. I know there are models made/being made. It's all good. But it would make for interesting battles. But, random thought, so would Stalingrad with the boats. |
Re: Trainz! Amen to Stalingrad with the boats. That would be 1337. |
Re: Trainz! It doesn't look like FH planned to include a large rail gun. The three cars they do include in the vehicles section are too small. Maybe they know something we don't...maybe not. |
Re: Trainz! I can't think of a map that could be large enough to accomodate the range of the gun, yet still remain unlaggy. Perhaps a smaller cannon will have to do. |
Re: Trainz! Unless the map featuring the gun is the same size as the Atlantic map, but on land, the awsome power is going to be stifled somewhat. If the map that size has too many things, it's going to get laggy. This is an unfortunate fun vs. practicality conflict. |
Re: Trainz! Well, trains in a Battlefield Mod seem to be possible. Look at this: http://www.battlefield1918.de/images/?id=389 http://www.battlefield1918.de/forum/...wthread&id=538 If the Battlefield 1918 team can do this, I'm quite sure the FH team can as well. Let's put some faith into the guys. |
Re: Trainz! Smaller railroad guns are much more usefull in bf1942 engine games anyway...because the size of the maps. http://picserver.student.utwente.nl/....php?id=576136 http://picserver.student.utwente.nl/....php?id=576139 |
Re: Trainz! Tham those are good pics, were did you get them from. I might use them for my next sig. :nodding: |
Re: Trainz! Maybe even a cannon the size of a bazooka or a destroyer turret gun would do. Any attempt to mount a battleship size cannon on a railcar would not end too well, or so I think. |
Re: Trainz! Those are some good pictures, now those guns would be great for the mod. Maybe a german trian station as the main base and those are the artillery guns for the map, just wonder what battle that would fit in. |
Re: Trainz! er...railguns would be pretty useless in FH, or and BF1942 mod. Their intended range of fire would send there shells off the friggin map. I'd be happier seeing more SP's & stationary howitzers. |
Re: Trainz! Neko Reaperman had only 5 days of his ban to serve before he would have been back amongst us. Instead he created a second account in an attempt to circumvent that ban. Neko Reaperman and Inu Reaperman have been banned permanently. ~AzH~ |
Re: Trainz! Giant railguns are kinda cool, but somewhat impractical for the scale of FH. Some those monsters took longer to reload than many FH games last (Gustav/Dora had a peak ROF of 3 rounds an hour, but rarely fired more than 10 in a single day). But, there are still a lot of cool scenarios that could be built around armored trains as the following excerpt (about a Soviet armored train) - illustrates: Quote:
