Default 37mm Gun M1

Hi all.

Recently, i had a wonderfull game on FH2.In wich i used the Bofors on Alam halfa to bring down 5 stukas and 2 Me109 in one life(Allies where cooperating pretty good for once on that map!)

As i was browsing the internet bout the Bofors, i found this gun

37mm Gun M1 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pretty much like a 40mm bofors, 37 mm automatic air defense gun M1939 (61-K) or a 3.7 cm FlaK 43.It seems to be pretty well produced with over 7000 Pieces and an appearntly pretty effective use on the T28E1 CGMC (Mounting the 37MM gun along with 2 0.50CAL machine guns)

It would be cool to see this AA gun with the americans in the future, cause it caught my eye well

I searched the forum, but always ended with the 37MM gun of the stuart

Also, keep up the good work FH2 team! Simply cant wait till Normandy

maybe. You see the US adopted the 40 mm tri mount bofers for its aircraft carriers and it used the bofers gun on the ground to but that does look like a daunting weapon and those mgs could help when trying to hit the plane.

True. But the bofors seemed to heavy for a Self proppeled mount, so they used the 37MM gun instead. In this role, it seemed to be effective.

Found a site wich has all the info i first searched for

Antiaircraft Artillery - 37mm Antiaircraft Gun

Appearntly, the 37MM gun was the standard Medium AA gun, rivaled by the bofors 40MM, and supplanted by it around 1942.The site also mentions how it then saw wide-spread use as a Self-proppeled mount.

I must say that I dont think I have never seen a US GMC like that with water cooled barrels shrouds over the .50cal's before. Interesting.

The US ship mounting was a quad mount, not tri mount. It was mounted in two pairs.

Like this:

There was a land based bofors but it was a single mounting on a trailer.

This is true. However, in FUTURE FH2 releases (Let us not slow down FH2 2.2 Normandy , you will be crucified), Early war USA should have These 37MM guns as one of their AA guns, along side the Bofors L/60.I saw a pic of a 37MM being used on the Solomon islands as a stationary gun in 1943.But in the end, it got fully replaced as a Stationary AA gun by the bofors L/60 around 1942-1943.

So early pacific maps, And if we should ever see Kasserine, should defiantly have this gun included.

And the Gun was a pretty Popular sight on M3 and M5 halftracks.Along with those Water jacket .50CAL.But this was only used on M15 halftracks so it seems.
I really hope the Fh2 team is willing to consider or implent this idea. For future releases that is Normandy>New AAA weaponary

The site also harbors many if not all the Info of American AAA weaponary, their crews and their regiments. So its worth checking out.

Water-cooled M2's only equipped the T28E1 CGMC, the M15 and M15A1 were equipped with air-cooled M2HB's, on the M15 they were mounted over the 37mm and on the M15A1 under the 37mm.

Here's some pictures of M15A1's prior to and during Operation Overlord, gathered from several books in my collection.

Being driven onto an LCT prior to the invasion:

Wrecked on Omaha:

Yet another wrecked M15A1 on Omaha, in the company of a pair of M16 MGMC's:

Okay, the last three images suggest that the M15A1's were of little use on Omaha, but they had some success, knocking out a 5cm KwK (L/60) positioned in a double embrasure bunker at the E-1 draw that had been very troublesome, but lets face it most of the vehicles landed during the first wave were quickly reduced to scrap.

I think it is also a gun on several American fighters. The Kincobra and Airacobra had one, and I think some P-38s may have as well.

Its on the King and airacobras, but not the lightning. And yes, I guarantee that the Airacobra, with the 37mm, will be ingame for the Ostfront, even if I have to make it the next Lafette
