The French fought with blue uniforms during WW1 and they didn't lost either, did they?
We where utterly poor back then and still used uniforms from late 19th century and early 20th century.
While using junk these men fought like lions against the Japanese.

If I remember correctly we fought together with the Commonwealths on certain spots. This is really speculating but somewhere I remember something about Dutch on Burma? I like the KNIL but it's not my specialty
I can tell you alot about Prinses Irene brigade on the West Front but this isn't my spot.

And yup, definately OZO

Well, the French did change to a more soothing grey colour scheme after it became apparent that red trousers and blue tunics aided the Germans quite well when it came to mowing down lines of le poilu.

Not grey, it was still blue, just a light blue. It actually works very well in a misty, foggy environment, but otherwise isn't that good :P

Plus, the KNIL uniforms don't look fancy at all to me...=/ Slouch hats, green KDs, its the same as aussie uniforms almost....

Light blue, light grey, same thing. At least it wasn't red pants.

Why should an uniform look good? It's there to fight in not to go to fashion shows.
And I wont start about the rather funny looking US Doughboy.

I think its been pretty much customary to have your soldiers look good, or intimidating for that matter. Just look at the 18th century, Every soldier went to war in a dinner jacket!

The idea of looking good was a moral thing. What makes a soldier feel better, more in tune with his buds, and more support for the regiment and the government:

A uniform made of rags
His civi clothes
Or a spiffy colourful uniform that makes u look good to the ladies.
