What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? After digging out and watching this old classic fanmade FH1 video - YouTube - Omaha Beach, Omaha Beach Charlie Sector is my most wanted map in the list. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Carentan, Ste-mère-église, Pegasus Bridge, omaha beach. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Foy and other nice looking snow maps, as well as a couple of para drop maps would be kick @$$ |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Something in Caen with Canadians. Yep. Seeing Pegasus Bridge again would be pretty awesome too. Foy was pretty epic; I really liked the atmosphere created by the snow. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Falaise Pocket. But done right this time. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? and how would that be? |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Pegasus Bridge, St M. Eglise, Brecort manor (nice infantry stuff for those 3), Falaise Pocket, and of course, Omaha and Gold beaches. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Cherbourg, ST LO, Behind Enemy Lines, Rammelle Neuville (?), ST.Nazaire (I known that, its not a normandy map, but talking about maps located in France....), Carentan, and more |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Arnhem primarily, and then Falaise Pocket (or some sub-battle thereof). A good Bulge map - Bastogne. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Arnhem is in the Netherlands, Foy & Bastogne are in Belgium. About the normand maps : D Day maps of course, para maps : Pegasus bridge, Brecourt Manor why not, Merville Battery (objectives maps), but Ste Mere Eglise I'm not sure... Plus Caen, Free French commandos storming the Ouistreham casino, Falaise Pocket with hedgerows and bazooka ambushes, Carentan, Cherbourg... |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Omaha Beach of course, a british beach either Gold or Sword, Merville Battery, Caen obviously, Villers Bocage and of course some map that includes the canadians. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Operation Goodwood, Operation Cobra, Bocage. Anything with Shermans, M10's, and Panthers...lots of Panthers. And the M10's should have problems penetrating Panthers frontally at over 300m and problems penetrating side at over 300m. Should get a few M36 Jacksons which should ahve no problems penetrating front or rear. And early M36's should not have muzzle brakes. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? 1:Battle of Brittain. Lots off planes / why is it again we dont have bigger planes (transport, medium bomber planes etc, as far as i know you can make maps huge and then there shut be room for them ) Like in this Video below, i miss this map alot. YouTube - Battle of Brittain 2 2:Bocage. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? I would have to say that since someone said it before, I've wished that sometime, somehow it would come true. mont st. michel |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Was there any fighting in Mont Saint Michel during World War 2? I highly doubt it. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Juno Beach, Omaha Beach, Carentan, and an airborne map that covers some aspect of the airborne landings prior to D-Day. Night of Nights anyone? |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Avraches Offensive, St Lo, Operation Goodwood, and some sort of generic fight through hedgerows, that includes the hedgerow bunkers. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Beneath Omaha Beach: Operation Goodwood for sure. Would be cool on a nice large map that would support some extended tank advances and infantry operations. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Pre-Normandy map I would like is the Battle of Dieppe in 1942 |

Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? The maps i'd most like to see in the Normandy theater release would be: 1) Omaha beach done as accurately as possible (WITH flamethrowers :p). 2) An airborne map which would be based on the Band of Brother type of thing. 3) Carentan. Open fields leading to a city-style map. Close quarter fighting once you get across the fields. 4) Hedgerows. As accurate as possible. Aussie. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Why are people suggesting Battle of the Bulge maps as part of the Normandy release?! Pegasus - with BF2's infantry engine I think it'd be much, much more intense. House to house in Caen - see above Proper Hedgerows Map™ Juno Beach - if only to be able to fight my way up a contested beach with a Lee Enfield, and against something other than big faceless bunkers (the maps of Juno I've seen all sport converted houses and occasional pillboxes rather than SPR style bunkers) |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Six months ago, I was on Juno beach with the 79th. It's a flat beach, with a small dune (about 20-25m) and small ports not so much defended (some 88 and 5cmKwK. But the beach's bunkers (set on the exits in the dune) are bigger than simple pillboxes. Blockhaus for observation, artillery and machine guns, cubes with 15m sizes. According to our canadian guide, the main fights and losses were for these bunkers, nades and SMGs first, then explosive charges. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Tankers would also have something to do since Canadian tanks were landed at Juno and actually made it to the beach =p |

Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Wow, great pictures Sgt-D, thanks for posting them! I can definitely see the devs making good use of them if they indeed do choose to make a Juno Beach map. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Awww, you took a pic of a Lafette for me.... But seriously, great pics. I really wish I could get a chance to go to those bunkers.... Here in LA we got a coastal fort, but most areas are blocked off.... |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Do you have any picture of Bernières-sur-mer, Sgt. D? |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? I quite like the model setups and the angle view from this pic, are they from your own private collection, Sgt-D ? http://lh3.google.fr/Team79th/RvlUFv...jpg?imgmax=720 |

Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Yes the models were shot at the Canadian Museum and Memorial at Juno Beach. We didn't go to Bernières/mer(but it's really nearby Courseulles - the two cities are claiming that De Gaulle landed on their territory a few days after the D-Day, so they both set huge Lorraine Cross monuments ont their beaches...)... The saturday we get to Bayeux museum, then to Arromanches (Gold Beach) and Pointe du Hoc. The sunday we went to Courseulles/mer (Juno Beach). Then most of us came back to Paris, But Nikita, Jay and McLaren stayed, and went to Longues/mer. The monday they visited Ouistreham and the Atlanticwall museum. We have about 2 500 pictures (~1000 showing some drunk clanmates ;) ) So I could find more pictures from Pointe du Hoc (sadly it's impossible to see the site from the shore, so you have only the german point of view) and from Arromanches (basicly, some mulberry's items plus three things spread everywhere on the normand landscape : 25pounder, 40 mm Bofors, M4A3 Shermans... after a few hours, you didn't notice anymore a Sherman on the roadside...it's too common) Beach exit at Courseulles: Spoiler: Pointe du Hoc: Spoiler: Spoiler: Spoiler: Spoiler: Average marine shell craters at Pointe du Hoc: Spoiler: Spoiler: Spoiler: Spoiler: Spoiler: Spoiler: Coastal gun emplacements at Pointe du Hoc Spoiler: Spoiler: Pointe du Hoc : bunkers Spoiler: [79th]IVG Spoiler: Spoiler: Me inside a bunker Spoiler: Spoiler: Ouistreham museum: Model of the sea observation bunker Spoiler: Spoiler: Spoiler: Spoiler: Automatic flamethrower of the Atlantikwall in Ouistreham: capacity : 20 litres (one shot). Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Juno Beach will be made when Canadian troops are made... which will require french voice commands, as there were french-canadians there... As soon as France is in, this map can be made, and I'll make sure it will be, as it is the best beach scenario IMO.. I released Juno Beach for FHTMOD but it won't appear in the normandy release though. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Some brand new large only-urban-map. Carentan or St. Mary Eglise for example. |

Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Actually the canadian french accent is very different from the european french accents. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Yeah sure, but the german military language of the 40's is quite different from the contempary one as well. I was assuming that BF2 was developed by DICE Canada like the BF:V, but seemingly it isn't. So there's no French-Canadian dubbed version? Too bad, no canadian forces then! ;) |

Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? I'm reading a recent book about the battle of Normandy, based on GI's, german soldiers and french civilians testimonies. You know the bocage war was tough, specially for attackers : each field of 100 acres was sorta natural fort, surrounded by tall inscrutable hedgerows (2-4 yards bank surmounted by inextricable vegetation), with an unique exit. German defenders placed MGs in the corners, and shooters were invisible, plus mortars and arty some fields behind. Attackers had to throw grenades over the bank, then charge with bayonets on. It took several hours and many losses to clean a filed, then was another to overcome. But on the first days, there were german local counterattacks. For example the village of Graignes, between St Lô and Carentan. Over 200 paras from the 507th regiment of the 82nd Airborne were gathered there, 20 kilometers from their DZ, with no way of communication and decided to wait the invading troops, helped by the civilians. They repelled several patrol actions during four days, then the 352nd german Infanterie Division made a strong assault the sunday, june 11th, at 10:00 AM. The paras toughly resisted during many hours, over 1 000 Germans were KIA or WIA, but finally thanks to mortars, 88s and divisionnal arty, the German broke through. Several US soldiers could retreat and join their main forces, but many were killed, and at least 13 prisonners were murdered by drunk german looters, both Americans and French, including the two priests. So a Graignes map could be an occasion to have German attacking in Normandy, with a Fort Alamo script, for a bocage infantry only map type. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? There was one case a few days after the landings where, because of the hedges, a full battalion of infy was butchered where they had made camp. The Germans were able to sneak around, surround them in the field, and then opened up on them. The entire battalion was killed or captured. The major counter attack for the Germans would be the Avranches, where they got hammered. Other then that, and immediate post-d-day counter attacks, most counter attacks were local. I have to admit, I take reports of the 352 losing 1000 men KIA or WIA there with several grains of salt, especially considering the 352 was mostly wiped out at the beaches due to its exhaustive attempts to reoccupy the fortifications, and the allies having to push them out again. BTW, its kinda bad to continuously cite 88s as being a major component of German artillery.... Sure, they were used on tanks, and aircraft of course, but I know few cases of them actually doing indirect barrages on enemy positions. Instead, it just became a classic think to call all German artillery in WW2 "88s" just like every tank was a "Tiger." German divisional artillery was mostly grouped into 105, 150, and 210 variants, along with mortars of the 50, 81, and 120mm size. |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? interesting stuff there sgt-d. u seem to really know ur Normandy history :nodding: |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? You're probably right about the 88, but the GI's testimonies massively reported the fear of the 88's muzzles seing in the hedgerows. Generic term for a mediatic gun. But as it was a flak gun, the 88 fired explosive shells, deadly for infantry. Still, I agree, its flat trajectory is contradictory with the bocage landscape for an antipersonnel use. I also read about the whole US battalions decimated by the 352, perfectly using the hedgerows for tactital approaches and surrounding. Very often it seems that many of these clashes occured by accident, when the 352 units mounting to the front suddenly discovered US groups. About Graignes, I'm not particurlarly fond of "Fort Alamo" map types, but I think such maps perfectly fit the BF scale (Bastogne, Bir Hakeim, Henderson Field...), and basicly a Graignes map would require : a small village with a church, normand mansions, and barns around, and of course thick hedgerows and individual foxholes for the defenders. Armament : mortars, MG42 and field artillery for Germans, only mortars and Browning M1919 MGs for the 82nd Airborne, plus small firearms (Garand, M1 Carbines, Thompson, Colt .45 and grenades). Some features would be great also : a destroyable churchtower, as actually the german arty destroyed it (snipers and observers), and tall trees coded as ladders or watchtowers (I mean make us able to climb in some trees to spot or snipe). By snipers I'm not only talkings about scope rifles : Americans were frightened by mortars, MG42 (its sound compared to riping silk) and hidden K98 shooters favourised by the hedgerows. No ammo restrictions, as during four days the Graignes inhabitants searched the country and gathered many dropped ammo boxes (still, during the battle, paratroops fired all the available mortar shells, explaining the heavy losses of the 352) *€dit*@ Deathfromabove : well, I'm permanently reading history books, but when I was a teen, I was able to name and place on a map every unit involved on the D-Day (now I'm not sure to still be able without help). I've read Cornelius Ryan's book about twenty times, plus several others (S.Ambrose, Larry Collins, Paul Carrell...) You know, the 50th anniversary was such a big event here in France, and in 1994 I've read almost everything published in french about Overlord. And The Longest Day movie is shown every 6 june on the main TV channels. The 2003 accusations about forgetting the sacrifice of these young american men were so unfair, as we will be forever grateful to them. *re€dit* it's my 666th post, don't see any malevolent intent in my post, I was truly sincere :) |

Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Sgt-D, your pics of Juno beach are almost a mirror of the one I snapped while there this past d-day, except we had an overcast and no sun. Highlight of the beach visit was playing a few songs on our pipes. We drew quite the crowd. Back on topic, I wouldn't mind seeing some of the action in and around Caen, Verriere Ridge for example. That and the some maps based on the sieges of the channel ports, Calais, Dunkirk, Boulougne. I'm not biased that I want Canadian maps am I? =p |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? Aye, yes, it would make a very fun map. Since its supposedly 352, and most armor hadn't made it to the front except on the british side by June 11th, I'd say the most armor the germans should have is a hanomag. If made, it should be a grueling infantry battle, that would be fun;D |
Re: What Normandy map would you like to appear most in FH2 ? I hope the devs are taking notice of this outpouring of support for Canadian maps :D |
