Radiomen and SL

I suggest that every squad has a SL and a radioman. The first person to join the squad is SL and second person is the radioman, or have it a requested kit. The SL should give orders and lead his men to the battle. The radioman could possibly be the mobile spawn and sit back and call for airstrikes, arty, and such. Either the radioman directly asks this to the commander and the commander has to accept. Or the radio man asks the SL and the SL has to accept and then it goes to the commander and he has to accept. I just dont want to see the SL a sitting duck. It really isnt that realistic to have the SL sit back and just order. He is usually in there with his squad.

Wouldnt it be better to use a FAO (Forward Artillery/air observer) for this kind of thing? It would be much more realistic then a radioman as it wasnt their job to call in artillery or air strikes. I even made various suggestions regarding the FAO awhile ago. I think you'll will find it quite interesting. :)

The forward observer had a radio...

Err... where did i say they didnt have a radio? I said it wasnt the job of a radioman to call in artillery, never did i say anything about the FO not having a radio.

Besides in some cases they didnt have one instead they used a field telephone.

Read the archive name Operational Command. Go down to the bottom of the archive and read about the radio.

(once yer done reading, read whats next)
Heres what would be cool for your suggestion, since i liked everything up to the arty part.

I suggest that every squad has a SL and a radioman. The first person to join the squad is SL and second person is the radioman, or have it a requested kit. The SL should give orders and lead his men to the battle. The radio man could give squad leaders the ability to communicate with other squad leaders and talk to the commander. If the commander comes across a squad, he can use the radio to relay messages and orders.

As far as squad leaders spawn, wait for what the Devs have to say. They will come up with sumtin unbelievable ;)

Re: Radiomen and SL

My commo idea was this, just to refresh:

-Bases, aircraft and most vehicles have radios (in bases it'd be in a building, for example, like a desk)
-A "radioman" unit is an infantry guy with reduced weapons (stamina?) and a radio
-Each radio has a radius
-Only people within that radius can send/receive radio macro messages ("tank spotted") or send/receive VoIP
-Everyone could still text-chat

It was just a thought.

in addition, I thought it'd be cool to (a) take arty spotting away from the sniper, and (b) have a "spotter" ("scout", "FO", whatever) class who can

-call arty
-spot vehicles with his binoculars (vehicle type xyz heading in direction abc)
-mark targets (Pietje says flares, I say smoke, both would be even cooler)

Well, the problem with that is not every squad had a radio in WW2. Besides, i think Fuzzy made a suggestion a little while ago regarding communications, radio radius or something. Not to mention it would be alot more realistic to let FO's handle artillery calling/air strikes and such.
