Engineers

just a wish I guess, who knows. The possibility of haveing an eng class that can build sandbags and put up razor wire. yes I have seen this on a rts however to translate this to FH would be awesome at a minimum.

This aspect would increas hasty defensive positions and increase our realism index even further, just a thought.

Re: Enginers

Posting this in the clan forums was very smart indeed.

It would be a nice idea though.

This has been discused be for too, we all agreed it would be great, but would people actually use or use it in a bad way, i still agree with it.

Re: Engineers

Indeed, but apart from that don't forget the silly effects it had in DC. Sandbags were used to turn buildings into unentrable fortresses :cort: . But with a deploy time and the option to destroy sandbags and barb wire it may work. Then again I can't think of many events were people created a sandbagwall during a battle...

Re: Engineers

Well they did but normally they created it behind the front line just incase the enmey broke trough, it still could come in handy but maybe its not good to have it for the first release anyway.

Re: Engineers

Doenitz, it's pretty feasible; log, earth and sandbag fortifications were fairly frequently constructed at a tactical level a bit out of the way of the fighting. On large maps, this would definitely make a lot of sense (it doesn't take a lot of effort to get a bunch of burlap sacks, fill them up with dirt & sand, and throw them together.)

The only limitation would have to be (a) that you'd have to _get_ the damn things from somewhere (like off the back of a truck) and (b) you couldn't just merrily sandbag your way to the enemy base or something silly like that.

Re: Engineers

Well that would be my main concern: seeing unrealistic events such as DC style spamming of sandbags out of the blue in the middle of an onoing battle: soldier enters a house under heavy fire, wants some extra defense and suddenly pulls out a sandbag to (partly) block the staircase/door... being able to dig yourself in when you have the time and material is fine ofcourse. Same as having a single sandbag to hide behind in the middle of a firefight. But sandbag walls (1 meter heigh and 1-2 meter long) popping out of nowhere instantly while your ass is under heavy enemy fire? Just... no.

Re: Engineers

If it took a realistic time to fill the sanbags to make anything worthwhile would take the majority of the round. Putting a few sandbags in windows would probly be better.

Re: Engineers

(MY IDEA) You would have a sand bag truck (as stated by fuzzy) and you would drive that around and it has a surrent radius where you can spawn sand bags and the amount as well. So once the sand bag truck ran out or blew up the sand bags would disappear say after 3 or 4 minutes...

Just my 2 cents...

It takes about a minute to fill a sandbag.

FH is scaled down in every way. Furthermore, the way availability of units in FH and reinforcements are handled is silly if you're a realism freak, but just fine considering gameplay requirements.

There's absolutely no reason why sandbags couldn't or shouldn't be handled the same way, as long as they're done in a sensible manner (i.e. one engineer can't sandbag half the map, one person can only deploy so many sandbags without getting more from somewhere, such as a truck or depot, sandbags have timeouts or whatnot.)

Re: Engineers

The fact is when your building sandbags, barbwire fences, etc would the engineer also gain points for it ? Another thing which worries me about this idea what if lots of people chose to be an engineer then there would be hundreds of dozens of sandbags for example littering the entire map, would this not make the server frustratingly laggy ?

Who cares? Seriously, why bother? I mean, I'll volunteer to do it.

Hence the "sensible manner"--back to my truck example, I don't think you're going to have more than 1-2 guys doing it, if you have this sort of feature. And if they have to keep going back for more, I think they'd get bored of it after a bit :-)

I don't think it's a very good idea. You make fortifications before the battle begins, not during it.

I have seen such droppable cover in dcxtended. and It works. If it could be implemented in fh realism style I would be all for it.

Not necesssarily, if u had time u could create a quick fortification like piling sandbags or wood or something befor enemy came, if u had the time u would, same as if u ahd barbed wire. if u had time, wich in game cases u normally do.

GC also had reasonably passable "sniper tents". Deployable camo netting would also be very nifty.
