Any possiblity of implementing the train i talked about this in fuzzy's commander thread but i wanted to create my own. trains have been talked about over and over again for FH1. not so much for FH2. but here a few ideas of mine to implement the train. oh and before i begin, moving trains should automatically be stopped by broken tracks. (possiblity for objective map) (the following are for remote controlled trains... how many soldiers knew how to drive a train?) 1. Supply Drop. (requires place with train tracks of course{depot optional}) this is a fixed supply drop. the commander can only call the supplies. train comes rolling along tracks, drops supplies such as ammo, kits, medical supplies. arguments: cargo plane paradrop could easily replace that 2. Vehicle spawn. (location has to have a depot with ramp) to make it less complicated, can only be used once. commander calls it in, with lots of vehicles on it. tanks, arty, jeeps, trucks. pulls to depot, drivers take the vehicles off the cars, off the platform and into battle. arguments: why not just have main base spawns then? 3. Heavy Weapon support. (requires tracks only). commander calls it in, heavily armed train (cannons basically) speeding down the tracks fires cannons to where ever the commander specified. arguments: easily replaced by arty (the following are for static trains) 1. Objective. Train depot? with train there? 2. Static supplies. the cars (maybe one or two cars are open)are just filled with medical supplies, kits, and ammo. 3. im thirsty. (sorry... playin with smilies) 4. heavy weapons. main base defense? train just sitting there with them big old armed cars (really old models were made for FH1) 5. atmosphere: all those rail cars and not one locomotive? at least one! even if it is wrecked! 6. The crazy drunken engineer kit. wrench, whistle, dirty face wrag, and a boiler that can kill the entire team! this is just basically my last ditch effort for the train. i realize the whole "think before u post" and "the devs know wut they want". but its a choo choo... who doesn't want one? |
Re: Any possiblity of implementing the train I would have gone with your first idea, as countries ( early war ) had planes they specificly used to deploy material. Train tracks would be placed near the mainbase of a army and the commander can spawn ( the same way as he spawns a vehicle now - except he can't choose a location ) a train that drives up towards the main base which supplies and a few vehicles ( random vehicles - from trucks to tanks ). This would definitely add up to realism and a challange as well. |
Re: Any possiblity of implementing the train Yes, please do implement trains. I love them in games and we see them way too rarely. Give me flatbeds with tank spawns or flak cannons, box cars with troop "spawn points" and supplies, a huge, black steam locomotive, and what the Heck else. I can just picture barreling into a train station control point at top speed, past some oil cars at a side rail, ramming a poor Fiat 666 off the rails and screeching to a halt with tanks and soldiers deploying and flatbed guns blazing, while I stand there in my locomotive firing my trusty Thompson sub-machine gun. Microsoft Train Simulator gone evil:D! Quote:

Re: Any possiblity of implementing the train that would be pretty cool if one side had to wait a time limit for a train to arrive with supplies like armored units... but they'd have to be given a couple aircraft meanwhile like 2 dive bombers. |
Re: Any possiblity of implementing the train I think it would even be a treat to just see them as stationary weapons, or as you said supply droppers... Or even have a train station as an outpost where tanks spawn on the ramps..thatd be neat-o. Anything beyond that is getting a bit carried away with the idea , though. |
Re: Any possiblity of implementing the train well i think driving a train in a night level would be really cool. when a train hits blown up tracks it could derail:deal:. it could be really cool, mobile spawn point with cannons, Like armoured train cars.and vehical and supplie transport. |
Re: Any possiblity of implementing the train Trains have indeed been brought up many times. We haven't seem them yet since it's (was) impossible to get a driveable train ingame that had to stay on it's track. If we can't code a train so it stays on the tracks it's no use to make it moveable at all. If it's possible in BF2 it would be fun though. But just as a static would already be great, all the train wagons (almost all the same odd enough) are getting boring. We would need more freight wagons (see latest maps), passenger wagons and locomotices. |
Re: Any possiblity of implementing the train I don't know about most people, but one of the main reasons I'd like to see trains is for the possibility of having early war or Barbarossa armored trains. And to my knowledge, these (usually) fought while standing still. |
Re: Any possiblity of implementing the train if static trains come into play, it would be nice to see maybe a quick american bombing objective map. if they are static, make an easter egg where u can press e to get in and give a little toot on the whistle. maybe some passenger cars. maybe hide the noob stick *shakes fist*(that better make it to FH2) in the engineers compartment. maybe a caboose where a sniper can climb up to that top sleeping compartment and snipe out there. some old freight cars even had a tiny stairwell for a little observation tower up top. im just a little kid who wants his train set. |
Re: Any possiblity of implementing the train There are, as this thread has proven, lots of possibilities. I actually like the idea of an AI train the Commander "places". It could drive through a station and leave a crate of supplies, a vehicle, or whatever else useful on the platform as it chugged past. If there was a bridge on the map, blowing up the bridge could the be equivalent of destroying the artillery or radar in Vanilla Battlefield 2: The train would end up in the river instead of reaching its destination, making it useless to call for it in the first place until the bridge was repaired:D! Might be hard to implement, though. Only expanding on the parked trains would be great, if you ask me. A box-car with supplies, a flatbed with an artillery piece, an armoured train car with some guns (as FuzzyBunny said), and perhaps even an oil tank car to blow up. |
