Default NCOL's 'Some Ideas To Consider' Thread

Yeah, I know I rant on about the search button. I searched, but alas, it's completely useless. Also, I dunno if these have been asked about FH2 and I wanted to know if they are possible.

1st idea, I like to call it the 'Lucky-bastard-just-killed-two-guys-with-one-bullet' idea:

I was reading up on the Red Orchestra forums, about how it's common for a rifle round to go through one 'target' and then hit another. Some guy managed to take out three targets with one .303 round. This is also possible in DoD:S with the Kar98 and I think, the Springfield also.

Therefore, I propose that rounds greater than .303 (and including .303) should have the possibility to go through one target and then another. I think two should be max, three is a bit overkill.

2nd idea, the 'Christ-my-screen-is-shaking-like-I-just-knocked-the-monitor-off-the-damn-table' idea:

We know that when you get within range of an explosive, or an artillery strike, or someone fires a 30mm round very close to your noggin in BF2 your screen goes fuzzy and blured and you cant hear much. Well, I thought, why not have this for when you fire a large round out of something. I mean, the fuzzyness would not be so big and it wouldnt last as long, maybe 3 seconds, but you could have an incredible deafness when the gun is fired. This could apply to such things as AT guns, Artillery (non-commander version) and other things like 25mm, 20mm, 88mm, 40mm Bofors AA guns.

RO has this implemented to some extent, and Pacific Assault uses it on .50cals, .30cals and Bofors AA guns to great effect. It doesnt hinder gameplay, in fact it improves it - you really do have to lay off with holding down the fire button when you're on a .50cal if you want to hit anything. It's also very atmospheric, and it actually gives a sense of feeling that you really are firing a powerful weapon. Would be very cool for main tank guns too. Personally, I love this idea, and even if something close to it has been discussed, I wanted to convey my version of this idea across.

3rd idea, the 'Anti-n00b-heavy-weapon-spammer' idea:

Same as the 2nd idea in the way of adding atmospherics and the 'blur' effect, but, this one adds the 'uncontrolable' element to weapons such as the .30cal and .50cal. Say, after you've fired constantly for four or so seconds, the gun tends to 'elevate' or go off to certain angles, illustrating the fatigue your arms gain when you're firing a high calibre weapon. This would, technically, reduce spamming of things like .50cals on the top of APC's as the gunner would have to re-adjust.

4th idea, the 'Bringing guns to life idea':

Well this one isnt so much a unique idea, but when you move the Barret or the MG36 etc. on BF2, the stands sway. Now, I was wondering if this could be added to guns that did have straps like the No.4 and Kar98. It could even be added to MP40's and Tommy Guns.

I'll keep adding my ideas to this thread as they pop into my head. Right now, I'm fighting a hangover so roughly 35% of my brain is working as it should.

Good suggestions. I would add to case of heavy mgs. It would be good if gun did not stop fireing when overheaten. Then those who were not careful would have to get another mg or if near to ammo resuply, change the barrel what would take some time. Alwys they could use overheated barrel but with dramatic spray of bullets while fireing.

Nice addition Allen, sounds cool. You could just have it so the whole gun goes crazy, with slower ROF and stuff.

Well I think most of what you speak of has been spoken about before. Idea 1 would be nice but I can see some engine limitations spoiling the fun here. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Idea 2 and 3 are pretty much a detailed suggestion of Gibs posts about adding cam shake, blur, aim off etc. when there is an impact (explosion, bullets) near you. Certainly needed and being worked on. Just have to make sure to bug them for more effects during beta tests.

The last idea would be nice aswell, more life to guns would be nice.

Personally, I think 50 cal. bullets and larger should be able to go through walls to a certain extent. It would make the .50 cal more useful because its slow rate of fire doesn't make it very desirable right now, but its definantly a realistic suggestion.

I dont agree, its already hard enough to shoot down planes with tanks/apcs MGs. MG sprayers can be taken out with one shot so i dont feel a need for making static mgs less powerfull. A MG or anything BIG should be feared, not laughed at

But the other suggestions are cool, good ideas imo!

i would like to see, minor shaking of buildings and dust falling, from heavy vehicles driving nearby. this would really add to the atmosphere, and increase the feeling that they are HEAVY tanks.

Erm...Stauffenberg. Read it carefully. In no way did I say reduce the 'power' of the weapon. I was requesting a change to its handling. If anything, I'd like the damage of ground MG's to be increased against planes significantly.

The BF2 engine allows for a greater 'feeling' to a game to be implemented. IMHO, not adding stuff such as this would be a real waste of potential. Heavy weapons feel weak because there isnt any feeling of it being 'heavy'.
