I don't know about the Chauchat but the Belgians did use a copy of the BAR: the m1930 if i am not mistaking.
About the uniforms : for the common soldier a mustardcolored adrian helmet with a bronze lionhead on the front, the uniform resembles the British one very much, later on it changed more to the French style. The officers wore a very British looking uniform.
The "Ardense Jagers", some sort of elite troops, wore a short jacket and legpieces over their uniform, on their baret was a bronze hogshead.

Anyway snotvod can you post some pictures.
It cant compare to the butifull dutch (marine) uniforms thoes are great hehe..oke sorry show thoes pictures!!

This the only decent picture i came up with after an hour of searching for the Belmgian uniform during WW2 on the net, i have a few pictures in books but i cant really show you those.
