Yes a commander should recieve only a pistol since if you apply to be commander that general means you want to LEAD not go rambo on the other team. By nerfing his weapon it would be plain suicide to rush out into combat, but at the same time he at least has some means of defending himself if he comes under attack.

Yeah, just give the commander a Luger. And make his spawn time a lot longer than others. He'll be much more careful.

Well since the server can only hold up to 64 players, 32 players to a team. That sounds more like a Platoon than an army. So change the name Commander to Squad Leader. And in this case the person can still rambo.

Wait, you want the commander to rambo? I'd rather have mine with his head buried in a map, gathering intel and directing his troops than ramboing. Being a commander is a full time job.

That's assuming the troops actually follow orders...I think it's kind of naive to think that in an unorganized game with a whole bunch of public player's that the player's will actually do what the commander says. I think it's good for clans and communites but for public servers the commander should just keep the normal kit.

Well than nobody would want to be a commander because thats just boring. Sitting around commanding your troops in a first person shooter GAME. Whats the point?

back to the subject....
I like the idea of a different skin for the commander, but no where else

Remember, that 32 players represents as grand army in most of the maps. I think the title "Commander" would still apply. For example, the forces at El Alamein were not commanded by a "Squad Leader".
