Re: Umm......Hmmm...What about a new map! I think a Peral Harbour map could work. Of course it wouldn“t be nearly as dramatic as it should be, but the concept would still work. And I personaly think it would be better than a map like Bombing the Reich... |
Re: Umm......Hmmm...What about a new map! I wouldn't mind seing it only if the the jap planes spawn midar not on a carrier, it would be hell on most pub servers. |
Re: Umm......Hmmm...What about a new map! Wouldn't the lag decrease if all american ships were unmovable and more like statics or did you already do that dime..? |
Re: Umm......Hmmm...What about a new map! make the boats a static with hps, and place manable AA guns around the boat. ie a 20mm here and there |
Re: Umm......Hmmm...What about a new map! This idea that its stupid because it 'wouldn't be suprise' and therefore cannot be done is itself stupid- because after the intial attack started it was a battle like any other. Nobody says that a omha beach map could not be done or the pre-d day map airborne drop, or battle of bulge is unworkable because they are ' not a suprise then'. THat is ridiculous- the BF maps that deal with 'suprises' loose there 'suprise' somwhere between loading screen and the readme file. Secondly, this idea that the map cannot be done because it cannot be historically accurate is outrageous- NO BF or FH map is 100%, or for that matter even CLOSE to being super historically accurate. To place such demands on a pearl harbor map is contradictory. With a modicum of creativy most people can think of workable ways of the map happening, and any self respecting map maker can make there version of a pearl harbor map- and it could not only 'not suck' be fun to play. WHy? Because there is no binding correlation between real life and in BF. |

As for American ships, make them statics with hitpoints (like a factory in BoB or the carriers in Coral Sea). All that's needed is a few static battleships - I believe this too would be historically accurate, because, if I remember right, the US ships were trapped in the harbor after the Japanese sunk a ship at the harbor entrance, blocking it. Even though the US didn't have too many planes in the air to fight the Japanese planes, just give us 2 or 3 to balance things out (and so US doesn't get bored of manning flak gun / machine gun all game). Voila - a good air combat map set in the Pacific (hopefully with a much better framerate). |
Re: Umm......Hmmm...What about a new map! You could always make it the second wave. Than the surprise problem wouldnt be a factor. You could add burning buildings and holes where bombs dropped, with maybe a static of a burning ship and the occasional wrecked Val. |
Re: Umm......Hmmm...What about a new map! First of all, why does it have to be the first wave of the attack that has to be the battle....????? Try this....Make it like the second wave attack on Pearl....By this time the US was already beginning to defend itself..... As for the ships...Why can't you make the water shallow? |
Re: Umm......Hmmm...What about a new map! i suppose you could make it so on US team you only start with just a knife (not even a pistol), and have to run to collect pilot kit, engineer kit, etc, from barracks or ships? |
Re: Umm......Hmmm...What about a new map! Well in the older full length movie based on pearl harbor - tora tora tora some ships do get underway. The one battleship that nearly sunk in the harbor entrance, did manage to get far out of the way though so it was not blocked. The main thing is not all the ships would need to be statics. There was more then just planes, the japanese also attacked with little mini-subs, and they had other ships in the area, Inlcuding some submarines. There was also spies on the island itself too, though I don't know if they did any sabotage. |
