Hey how about a anti personal mine. ONe mine that i know of is a Schu mine. Here is a picture of it. http://members.aol.com/ItalyWW2/MineSchu3.jpg I would enjoy having one in the game. Just a thought.
It would give a new reason for the engineers to have wrenchs, not to repair, what with the repair tanks at somepoint, but to just pick up amnd lay mines.
how would they know its there, there should be no "LOOK A MINE IS BELOW" symbol and if i was capturing a flag in enemy territory i wouldnt point the ground to play minesweeper
The point of a minefield is to restrict enemy movement. You put up signs saying "Hey! mines over here!"
You want the enemy to know mines are there so they wont come there. What you dont want is for them to know how deep and wide and where gaps are.
Before the invention of the mineclearing vehicles used in North Africa minefields were a major almost impenetrable obstacle. The only way to clear them was to have sappers proble the ground with bayonets lookng for mines, the mine would then be gently dug up and disarmed or explosives palced on it and detoanted from a safe distance. The explosion often detonated other mines. The Germans also started planting Anti personnel mines to hinder sappers from removing vehicle mines.
Now on top of this you have to remove the mines with mortars, MG fire, and rifles sweeping the area trying to get you.
Later a metal detector was used to detect mines so sappers could find and remove them easier. Germans then developed wooden mines, as exemplified by the wooden shoe mine that was very hard to detect.
Also, AP mines were not designed to kill. If a soldier is killed by a mine his body can be left for the grave registration teams. But if a person is wounded then it takes at least one and usually two people to move that person off the battlefield, instead of reoving one person from battlefield you just took 2 maybe 3 persons off and the wounded soldiers cries could be harmful to morale.
German S-mines, aka Bouncing betty's by the Yanks and debollockers by the Brits were designed to wait a second or two, then pop up to groin level and detonate showering the area with pellets and could knockout 10-15 guys at a time. Now you have taken 20-30 guys off the battlefield with one mine.
Needless to say, mineclearing was not a popular job.
Thats why the minesweeper vehicles were so important. Suddenly you could attack where ever you wanted without having to endanger the sappers and mine detector crews and penetrate a minefield quick enough that the enemy would be hard pressed to shift forces to cover the breach effectively.
@R4DG: dude your avatar pic is freaking me out.

AFAIK, ap mines are impossible to code in the bf engine. DC had them, (and they were HEAVILY abused, people were using them as proxy nades). After that, a BF engine patch compleatly buggered their code to hell. I havnt seen any other attemps by other mods as well.
isnt the shoe mine the little tiny one that was designed to blow off the toes of the person stepping on them (hence the name) thereby crippling them from military service? (no toes = extreamly hard to walk)
or am i thinking of something else?

That's about right, it'll take off your toes plus a little extra depending on the usaul situation like depth angle and stuff. Schu mines were made out of wood and thus mine detectors had a problem finding them. This is quoted in SPR by hanks when he's talking to teh Colonel "...the little wooden bastards that the mine sweepers can't find". It'd be neat but like McGibs stated...no.
An elite army challenges the world again. And a hero, once thought lost, returns to fight them.
