Pacific maps

Im sure im not the only one here that has had enough with tiny, unrealsitic islands where a guy can run clear accross it in 10 minutes. i personally like having the entire island mapped, but sometimes it just get too damn small. make the land take up half of the damn map, not 2 grids. wake should be much wider, not just big enough to let a truck drive around. iwo jima and saipan need to be enlarged. i believe makin is being trashed for a map focusing on the invasion of said island (yellow sands?). gualcanal is not only way too small, but backwards too. i believe the US landed on the south, and the japs had teh north.

not really a map issue, but we need to renovate the ha-go coding. in real life, the type 95 was able to be pierced by a springfield's .30 caliber round in the side, top and ass armor. the front was even vulnerabe in spots. the turret could be jammed by sticking a knife in teh right spot, and if you tossed a nade on the top of it, it would totally destroy the engine, not to mention the crew. some may complain about, "balance". well, its monday, and im not understanding anymore. so screw you and go play battlegroup if you dont like it.

finally.

Re: Pacific maps

Saipan is already a wilde goose chase, and you want to have it bigger?

Saipan is like 15 miles in lenght. The maximum (playable) size BF allows is 4 kilometers!

Re: Pacific maps

i agree with lightning, there is still a difference between a game and real life. maybe in the future we will play on maps with the correct 1:1 size, real weather, day-and night-cycle and BBQ with marshmellows :D

Re: Pacific maps

We don't have to make the ratio 1:1. but we can expand the size of some of these maps. Saipan and Wake are kinda like wild goose chases, because one dirty Jap in a truck can drive around just greying and taking those damn Yank's flags.

It's like clockwork. Japanese grey the two northern flags or the southern camp flag, and drive a truck straight for the airfield, and jump out and dive into the bunker, and the flag immediately goes grey even if there are 15 Americans standing right there shooting at the truck.

i dont see how a bigger map would solve ur problem? there will always be a rusher in a fast vehicle, thats part of the game.

if 15 americans shooting at the truck and dont kill him we maybe need a nuke :D

the problem is that no1 likes to spawn at the 2 northern flags cuz everybody wants to fly, thats why the northern flags can be taken so easily...
in 90% i spawn as the only soldier there, calling for backup :(

Re: Pacific maps

well, of course i dont want it to be full size. but making the map itself larger, hell yeah. and not just siapan, wake, iotp, iwo jima, all those maps. hell, remake midway with a larger map, and put the island somewhere else.

In Guadalcanal Savo island is too small for three men but it was a strategic point for japanese costal batteries :/

That happens in all bf maps. Plus midway and wake was small, you cant make it bigger since it will take away ocean size. Plus in midway, the island doesnt even matter, you need to control the ocean to win.

Re: Pacific maps

The best thing to do would be remove the pacific theatre.. who likes it anyway?

But seriously, the pacific theatre will always be more unrealistic than other theatres, BF just doesn't allow much.

Re: Pacific maps

Maps should be full size, focus on sections at a time, Name them maybe, Saipan-Yellow beach(?) then for when the allies moved off the beach make a section for that.

Obviously you cant do the entire islands like that but focus on the important parts, Iwo Jima: Landing, Capture of Mt. Suribyachi, Capture of Both (or the main) airfields, in that order.

And USMA I agree with you about the Ha-Go and all Japanese tanks.

Re: Pacific maps

if u want big maps u need more transportation... i dont want to be running around from one end to the other end just to get killed, or just waist time waiting for a jeep etc. to spawn..

Re: Pacific maps

u prolly hate the best map ever (prokhorkova) too, dont ya? walking is good for u. besides, the maker of map says how long it takes for shit to spawn...

Re: Pacific maps

Pacific theatre does suck. The two boats and an island thing really needs to stop. Wake Island, Saipan, Makin, Midway. How many times do I have to play the same bloody map with a different island. Make maps that are full sized will prevent wandering off. How many people do you see wandering on Kursk?

Re: Pacific maps

i think THE WHOLE pasific campgian needs 2 be reworked i hate pasific maps i refuse to play them i leave the server, they need to change the whole fighting style the japs didnt fight like the jerries, so playing pasific maps should be diffent

Re: Pacific maps

the pacific is my second favorite front, and these changes are really necessary.

on an afterthought, is it possible to code arresting hooks on carriers? i actually land on the decks sometimes, only to have to back-taxi for half an hour. would be kinda nice.

Mazz August 30th, 2004 07:37 PM

Re: Pacific maps

the japs maps need enlarging and way more WELL placed MG nests, tank traps and artillery. They were defensive since the loss at Midway so why do they have no good defensive positions. Iwo is way to small. The island was 4 square miles. Wake is boring for the japs since the beach always camped by the flak and MG gunners and if you land the betty at the arifield youre usually hit by a wave of thompsons. Guadalcanal is ok but it need to be less hilly and more foresty. Philippines i dunno cause i dont know what that was like. Midway needs a better BF naval code to be fun.

Spike1942 August 31st, 2004 03:57 AM

Re: Pacific maps

Well, I like the Pacific theatre a lot. Naval surface combat between battleships sucks a bit because the fog prevents realistic long range ship shooting. But the destroyers and PT boats are fine, since they fought at close range anyway.

Midway should be enlarged, I agree with that. Take out the Prince of Wales since there were no Allied battleships at Midway. To compensate, take out the Yamato as well, and give the Japanese a second carrier instead. If enlarging the island leaves little room to move the big ships, that's OK. The carriers could be fixed in place so they can't move. Also the carriers will have to be sunk by aircraft, as it was historically. There will still be destroyers for people who like the ship-to-ship fighting.

Re: Pacific maps

i like pacific too, saipan is always fun, imo well balanced, both teams have good chances to win with teamplay, and u never can take a break there, thers always 1 flag right now turning grey.... i like to take the torpedoboat and drive to the u.s.-carrier... although u need to drive 2 times u can sink the carrier easily when approaching it from his "6" :) no1 ever shot me in my torpedoboat, maybe i was lucky, maybe no1 saw my tiny boat as a worthy target :D

what the pacific theater needs as mentioned above ist better defensive positions for the japanese, and take away the sherman, it was rarely used, u.s. had m3 (i think, this light crappy thing). even if the sherman was used, its too strong vs. the jap so-called tanks which makes gameplay a little unbalanced.

in general the bf1942-engine has some limits we have to live with, so lets wait for bf2 next year and make fh on that new engine, then we can have BIG maps with trees and stuff :D

USMA2010 August 31st, 2004 05:23 AM

Re: Pacific maps

ahem, i hope you mean a Patrol Boat. the sherman was used sometimes, i know it saw action on saipan and iwo jima, and okinawa. nothing after around july 1944, thats when the us govn't declared it obsolete.

saipan in annoyingly small, with those battleship guns never being put to use. for shame. i prefer makin.

Prime Evil August 31st, 2004 06:29 AM

Re: Pacific maps

agreed, the battleship makes not much sense on saipan.

topedo- or patrolboat, whatever, the small thing with torpedos...peacounter ;)

USMA2010 August 31st, 2004 09:05 AM

Re: Pacific maps

on the real saipan tho, they absolutly need one.

i count peas because a torpedoboat makes me think of a giant torpedo manned by people

Doesn't the PT in PT boat stand for Patrol AND Torpedo? :D

Re: Pacific maps

I would like to see an island where vegetation and ambush points are feasable in the interior of the island.

Note: Saipan's Battleship should be fixed in place like the Coral Sea carrier, forcing people to use the artillery spot feature and not drive the thing ashore and AA gun the ground :-/

USMA2010 August 31st, 2004 09:02 PM

Re: Pacific maps

well, no, then the massive cannon cant reach all the spots on the island.

Frederf August 31st, 2004 09:37 PM

Re: Pacific maps

I would agrue that it could cover the vast majority of the island.

um, whata bout the other side, remember that large mountain thing?

Frederf August 31st, 2004 10:32 PM

Re: Pacific maps

Ok, then a wide range of shallow water around so it can't direct fire onto land from insanely close.

USMA2010 September 1st, 2004 09:03 AM

Re: Pacific maps

i kinda understand you, but i would rather see saipan be 5 times larger.

Big {Daddy} September 1st, 2004 09:55 AM

Re: Pacific maps

Midway is fun because it has something for everyone. Iwo Jima is pretty cool to because of all the toys. Wake is OK, but it needs balancing.

The remaining Pacific maps are crap and should be dropped imo. Saipan is especially poor. It looks like it was rushed out to make the deadline. If anything I think the Pacific maps should be made smaller. At the moment they are a wild goose chase of flag capping. They need more focus... like capture the hill, or take the beach.
