These are two oddball-looking German aircraft. They've been around somewhere in the middle of WWII.

This is what the Bv 141 looks like

And this is the Fw 189

Strange looking indeed.
One thing I've always wondered is if this large bomber-like plane used in Indiana Jones: Raiders of the lost Ark was ever really constructed or just Hollywood-fiction, anyone know about it?

The German bomber in Raiders Of The Lost Ark was a fictional plane inspired by real designs like the Horten Brothers flying wing designs.

I imagine the second plane is based similar to the P-38. The first one looks like it would have a terrible list to the right. Purpose of either? I see no weaponry at all.

The FW-189 UHU(Owl) was a recon and scout plane used extensively on the Russian front. It had IIRC 2 x 7.9mm forward firing and 2 x 7.9mm rear firing in dorsal flexible mount and 1 x 7.9mm in tail.

The BV-141 was the competing design to the FW-189 and was also a recon/scout/light bomber/ ground attack aircraft. It was actually very balanced and flew very well. Because Blohm and Voss were slow to get the prototypes out and a pre production batch going the FW-189 was given the contract. The small number (13?) were used on the Russian front and the project was dropped in 1943.
