Halloween is like Christmas at my house. We do the haunted house for all the kids coming for candy. The wife and I make our own costumes (this year I'm going as either the living dead or a mummy, was the reaper last year). We bake a lot of Halloween themed goodies and meals and the kids get to stay up until the wee hours of the morning. I live in Colorado, so snow is likely usually falls on Halloween, so we set up for either going out or staying in and having fun. It is snowing like hell outside and we are supposed to have 8 to 14 inches by Thursday, but it is suppose to be in the 50's and 60's this weekend, so hopefully most of the snow has melted and it won't be so cold going out at night come Saturday.

Next to Christmas Halloween is my favorite Holiday. You can dress crazy and act like a idiot and no one cares, the one day of the year I fit in.

I know Halloween started out as a ritual to drive away evil spirits but for the vast majority of the population its just a time to have fun.

A couple of years ago a friend and I were living in a very old house. We got a "Haunted Sounds of Halloween" album and set the stereo speakers in a upstairs window with a bright red light shining out the window and rented a small fog machine to fog the front porch, and had spider webs and silly string hanging everywhere.

My mom was giving out candy, Monte hid on the side of the house making growling noises and when someone looked he had a Gorilla mask on.

Anothe friend was dressed in all black and laid in the rafters of the front porch pulling off hats or dragging strings across people's faces as they walked to the door.

Our house was the place to go in the neighborhood and people came from blocks over to see the "scary house".

It was amusing watching little kids standing on the sidewalk too scared to go up to the house...ahh the scarred minds we created that year.

Nowadays a female friend has a big Halloween party and we all get dressed up to drink beer, eat, watch horror movies, and ogle the females in costume.

Her Halloween parties are the social event of the year and one of the few times I leave the house and venture forth into society under my own choice.

A very religious guy I used to work with, his Church forbade any Halloween activities and instead had a "Saints Night" at the Church where kids dressed up as Bible characters and they got candy from people in the Church.

IMHO the spirit of the holiday is still there even if they changed it to be something different so as to not to be associated with Pagan holidays.

And its also that special two months of the year when Brach's Mellowcreme Pumpkins made with real Honey are available.



I usually dont eat candy and dont like chocolate very much but I do love those little Pumpkins.

Several companies make them but I can only eat the Brach's Pumpkins. The others taste like little piles of powered sugar. Unfortunately due to the Hive collapse disorder and the millions of Bee's dying the amount of Homey used has been cut back but they used to have a very strong honey taste and I live Honey.

Rest assured, nature finds a way. Docile colonies of Africanized honeybees are be cultivated to take the place of the European honeybees. Also, amazingly enough more and more docile colonies of yellow jackets have been replacing the honeybee. For the last two years my garden has been pollinated primarily by wild bees and by the three yellow jacket nests I keep. Normally I would terminate any yellow jacket hive, but I've been successful in cultivating these three hives. I'm guessing they are used to the family and activity, cause they don't seem to react to us as a threat. At any rate, lots of pollinating...just not sure about collecting yellow jacket honey - if that is even possible.
