| I mean I don't want to shit on Obama here because you know, he's my love child. But I think there is potential at the end of 4 years for him to maybe deserve this, but at this point, especially since the nomination was actually done so soon in his presidency. Just because it was given to him because he wasn't as douchbaggish as George Bush doesn't mean he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize. That's like, hey now that Stalin is gone, we will give you Kruschev, since youre better! |

| Communism wins Nobel, outrageous! I agree totally with this decision, it's a polithical manifesto, after 8 years of madness and criminal behaviour coming from a...theorically...democratic government, the champions of "with me or against me", those who have killed hundreds of thousands just for their will of revenge and their criminal greed, the Academy just rewarded the simple common sense of a person with moral principles: violence can't never be the first and only solution to a conflict. And I don't know why the hell you complain, righties...Kissinger and Nixon got the Peace Nobel Price and both were criminals with the hands full of blood. |

| He's in charge of two wars and ignoring both of them, 9 months in guys, they are his now. I guess technically, that is peaceful. I really think there are more deserving people of that prize, people that have been at it for years working for something. I agree with Moose in that I'd have no problem with him winning after, I dont know, some accomplishments. If what you say is true Lobo, than the winner of the prize should be the American voter. They are the only ones who have accomplished anything with regard to Obama. Putting him there, that is. The man's done nothing yet.

| Why does someone HAVE to win? I must say that even though I like obama and love the governmental change in the US, I do not think that he should have gotten it, yet. Assuming that there is no one who does deserve it, why does it have to be given to anyone? How about not giving the Nobel Peace Prize to anyone, as kind of demonstration that nothing/not enough is being done to achieve peace. But I do believe that there are people worthy of it, I just don't know who... |

| Dr. Denis Mukwege jokes with patients outside the surgical ward of Panzi hospital in Bukavu, DRC. On this photo's date, Dr Mukwege had treated 21,000 women suffering from devastating gynecological injuries as a result of rape in Congo's brutal war. He is the only gynecologist treating these wounds in the country. Oct. 14, 2008 ![]() Handicap International and Cluster Munition Coalition APAn injured boy is tied on a bed after a bus he was in was hit by a mine. Nine women and seven children are among the 30 killed in the blast. The packed bus traveling from the western city of Herat to Kandahar, Afghanistan hit a land mine in Maiwand district Tuesday. Thirty-nine people were wounded. These were two of the hundreds of nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize. How can you possibly say that Obama deserves it over these people?

| I think that maybe the Nobel Committee should have given him the award maybe after he had actually achieved something. While I think Obama's efforts have been commendable he needs to actually achieve something worthwhile before being awarding something as prestigious as the Nobel prize.

| Hey, stylie, I would never give the Peace Nobel to a politician, one never knows, we give them the Nobel this year and next year they are invading countries and killing grandmoms. And yeah, it's just too early and Obama will likely get nothing in the domestic and international battlegrounds, he has an impossible task with the resentment, insolidarity and greedy character of the american far right and the cowardice in his own ranks. As I said it's just a polithical manifesto, they could award some unknow fighter for Human Rights as usual and it would be more fair and perhaps reasonable, but this is sending a message, there is another style to solve the actual international clusterfuck. It's the sense of the Peace Nobel, myself, never in my sanity would give it to Arafat and Rabin (two persons with a violent past in their careers) but I understand why they gave it to them. | It's interesting that he was nominated only a few days after his inauguration. I think he should have been given the miss this year; as others in this thread have said, it would have been much better for him to have actually done something before being nominated. |
