Insects quickly become resistant to insecticides. For example, a major effort was made to wipe out the Anopheles mosquito (the one that transmits malaria). Initially huge gains were made, by spraying insecticides (I think it was DDT) on walls of houses, and tree trunks where mosquitoes like to rest. However, after a while, mosquitoes just started resting elsewhere (Natural Selection at work), and those who did rest on places where DDT was most heavily sprayed seemed resistant to the action of the insecticide.

Hah, my freind Zach and I have often planned for this. The secret is... dish soap!!! Yes, just draw a little circle around whatever you don't want ants on, and it is ant free! "Cause Ants don't like dish soap!
