I myself believe Christmas is still a Roman/Germanic holiday which was later used to celebrate the birth of Jesus. The Church couldn't stop the pagans from celebrating so they made it a Christian holiday.
Christmas trees are from the Germanic culture AFAIK.
Regarding the Christmas tree itself, Chambers notes that it seems to be a very ancient custom in Germany, and is probably a remnant of the splendid and fanciful pageants of the middle ages.[4]
Quote:
The custom of putting up a Christmas tree can be traced to 16th century Germany, though neither an inventor nor a single town can be identified as the sole origin for the tradition, which was a popular merging of older traditions mentioned above; in the Cathedral of Strasbourg in 1539, the church record mentions the erection of a Christmas tree.

And now christmas is once again changed to a holiday of consumerism.
Edit:
oh and in sweden we don't eat turkey... we never eat a turkey, other than in slices on sandwiches sometimes.
typical swedish food is potatoes, meatballs, a big boiled ham, "janssons frestelse" (translation: Janssons temptation), Lutfisk (combination of different fish), Sill (herring).
