Try going there now and saying your last name is Sherman. You'll be dead in seconds.

Yes, reps for a very stereotypical response, yet again outlining European ignorance.

You got a point - nobody could pwn women and children like Sherman. Man, Sherman really kicked their asses while their menfolk were off fighting.

Yep - it tends to build up centuries-long resentment when you burn every dwelling, eat or lay waste to every single foodstuff or head of livestock, and steal or utterly ruin every single item of property or personal valuable in a 60-mile swath from Atlanta to Savannah. Although the area was not as large as the vast steppe, Sherman, with a 19th century army and less than 100,000 men actually did a far better and more thorough job of utter destruction of the land in his March To The Sea than the Germans did in Russia.

And I as a yankee think that Sherman was a brilliant tactician ;)

I think you meant Russians did in Russia.

It was Stalin's whole scorched earth thing. Destroy anything useful. But sure, invading armies of people (or at least their leader) that consider your people to be inferior is not a happy thing.

It went both ways, on their retreat the Wehrmacht used scorched earth as well.

Right, I just assumed he was focusing on Barbarossa.
And then those Ruskies did a number on eastern Germany, and practically gutted Berlin.

*The answer is yes, yes it is. Shut up.
