Default 'Leaked' BF3 Details

Breaking: Battlefield 3 Leaked Info » DigitalBattle

Quote:
A tipster sent us PDF document which looked like an outline of features for Battlefield 3. The three page document is apparently prepared for investors which should get it by December of this year. It details basic features of BF3, and are as listed:
  • Release in late 2008
  • Powered by “Frostbite DX”
  • Set in year modern day (just like BF2, ed.)
  • Will ship with 8 maps, each supporting up to 40-players per team
  • Two playable factions, NATO and MEC (Middle Eastern Coalition)
  • Same “ticket-based” gameplay style as before
  • Maps are mostly urban, based in Middle East
  • Squads and Commanders are present, introduced are “Battalions” which consist of three to four squads.
  • Five playable classes; Sniper, Assault, Engineer, Medic and Support
  • Will feature 48 different vehicles (24 for each faction)
  • Will feature 34 different weapons (17 for each faction) and another 22 unlocks (for both factions), in total 56 different weapons.
  • Other unlocks include different types of ammunition, body armor, helmets, camouflage and accessories.
  • Possible public beta in “Summer 2008″
  • Online stats tracking, awards and “real world ranks”
  • “Soldier” feature, looks like MMO-styled characters and avatars
  • Ranked servers will be available for resellers weeks before the game ships (for testing, apparently, ed.)
  • In-game replay and recording feature
  • VoIP, friends list, in-game IM-client and “extensive clan support”
  • Built-in auto software updater (no more patches!, ed.)
  • Widows Vista and OS X (no XP?!, ed.)
  • Announcement and teaser trailer in January 2008.
Personally I'm not convinced, seems like a simple remake of BF2... I would hope that DICE, being the game company they are (they ARE good, EA are the bad guys) would want to try something more ambitious.

EA responded with a 'no comment', so it may be true

Thoughts?

It sounds like Battlefield 2 light. Personally I'm not convinced these details are real.

If that is real, I hope Forgotten Hope 3 will be introduced. Otherwise I might not buy it. Imagine WW2 on that engine, destroyable houses and all! I just wish they would make a WW2 battlefield again, but they'll only listen the 11 year-old-gotta-catch-em'-all-rank-pussy BF2 kiddies whining on the EA forums.

the first strike devs visited the DICE HQ in sweden , and saw something they were very exited about but couldnt tell us anything about .

so i think its partly credible....

but just as BF2 and BF2142 , they wont earn a penny from me on that game either .

i could write a long rant about what bugs me about them , but im too tired , maybe tomorrow .

To be fair to modders - such a game would be something to be excited about if it's on the Frostbite engine. Even if the core game is shite they can still mod it.

By the name of everything thats holy I sure hope not!! The last thing we need is that after 2-3 releases for FH2, devs would move on to a slightly better engine. Seriously. If (IF) there will be FH3, it better be on an much-much better engine, I personally hope we can see FH2 v1.0 this time around.

I don't even know if I want DICE to do WW2 again... They seem to be persistent on adding stats, unlocks and all that shit, and in ww2 concept... I can see it now: marines holding back Japs on Wake with FG42's

Unlocks would indeed be tricky in a WWII game... then again, it's totally unrealistic to see Chinese soldiers with PKMs and M95s, or Americans with L85A1s in a modern environment.

I for one do really hope that if there is a BF3, it's WWII again. Of course, a part of me says that that would kill a large part of FH2's fanbase (the die-hard WWII fans who don't care if it's realistic or not)...

Hmm, looks like I failed to show how much I despise any sort of unlocks system, including the one in BF2. Its insanely stupid and boring to have G3 vs G3 type of combat. And trying to put something like this into WW2 theme - even worse.

Why do you guys hate EA so much? What makes them evil and Dice not so evil?

I'd bet if you look at your game library, you'll have some soul searching to do...

EA don't care about us

What's the taste of thousands compared to the daddy's portfolio of millions?

And yet we're stupid enough to keep buying their games, they must be doing something right.

As for these leaked details... sounds like BF2 redux, bleck :/

But what do you think they should do, create WWII shooters based on realism and gameplay and spend millions marketing it a few thousand? Or create a game with mod tools and actually allow the general public to make a fantastic array of different games to suit their own tastes? Truth be told, aside from Oblivion and COD3... BF1942 is the last game I bought for my PC in 2003!!! $40 for 4 years of gaming? Thats the fricken bomb! Im not saying you gotta love EA, I just dont understand the hate. What does it really matter in the end... Is EA hurting you or something? You either like it and buy it or dont like it and not buy it. Did Dice set out to create a niche game? Hell no. Niches are for the general public to create through mod tools, provided by Dice and EA.

About sums up my opinion....

The way di(EA)ce treated modders with BF2 you can be damn sure I wont be buying another one of there products. Dice sold there soul to the devil, there is no more dice as we know it. They aren't the good guys, they are EA......thats it.

I could care less if these are real or not, I also could care less about what got First Strike so "excited" or how moddable Frostbite engine is, because none of that will be available to us modders....

They have proven time and again that they are willing to lie to there core community to rake in a little more cash. Case and Point: I bought 2142 because di(EA)ce promised us there would be better mod support, they said they had an entire team of staff members devoted to helping the modding community....

What do we have exactly a year later? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.....not only do we not even have a fucking editor to use, we haven't gotten ANY documentation/tutorials/help in modding 2142. They have said JACK SHIT in regards to modding 2142.....I applaud First Strike for being able to put out such a solid release in such poor conditions...then again they have lost of connects within di(EA)ce so I'm sure they got some help....

Regardless, I'm moving over to an engine that supports modders, and if you have ever picked up BF2 modding tools and are considering "well maybe they have changed" then your a damn fool, and have fun in the shit hole that di(EA)ce personally threw you into....
