| Why do you guys hate EA so much? What makes them evil and Dice not so evil? I'd bet if you look at your game library, you'll have some soul searching to do...

| And yet we're stupid enough to keep buying their games, they must be doing something right. As for these leaked details... sounds like BF2 redux, bleck :/

| But what do you think they should do, create WWII shooters based on realism and gameplay and spend millions marketing it a few thousand? Or create a game with mod tools and actually allow the general public to make a fantastic array of different games to suit their own tastes? Truth be told, aside from Oblivion and COD3... BF1942 is the last game I bought for my PC in 2003!!! $40 for 4 years of gaming? Thats the fricken bomb! Im not saying you gotta love EA, I just dont understand the hate. What does it really matter in the end... Is EA hurting you or something? You either like it and buy it or dont like it and not buy it. Did Dice set out to create a niche game? Hell no. Niches are for the general public to create through mod tools, provided by Dice and EA.

| About sums up my opinion.... The way di(EA)ce treated modders with BF2 you can be damn sure I wont be buying another one of there products. Dice sold there soul to the devil, there is no more dice as we know it. They aren't the good guys, they are EA......thats it. I could care less if these are real or not, I also could care less about what got First Strike so "excited" or how moddable Frostbite engine is, because none of that will be available to us modders.... They have proven time and again that they are willing to lie to there core community to rake in a little more cash. Case and Point: I bought 2142 because di(EA)ce promised us there would be better mod support, they said they had an entire team of staff members devoted to helping the modding community.... What do we have exactly a year later? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.....not only do we not even have a fucking editor to use, we haven't gotten ANY documentation/tutorials/help in modding 2142. They have said JACK SHIT in regards to modding 2142.....I applaud First Strike for being able to put out such a solid release in such poor conditions...then again they have lost of connects within di(EA)ce so I'm sure they got some help.... Regardless, I'm moving over to an engine that supports modders, and if you have ever picked up BF2 modding tools and are considering "well maybe they have changed" then your a damn fool, and have fun in the shit hole that di(EA)ce personally threw you into....

| To play devil's advocate, many are complaining that it's Vista only (and OS X, glad to see that), but if it's DX10 optimised, there's no other way... Crysis is Vista only too, is it not?

| If DICE/EA supported the mods or even listened to the custoners I would ahve a different opinion. Their mod support is halfhearted. You want mod support, talk to Valve, those guys IMHO have great mod support. I have my eye on Crysis. I think its gonna be the new game to beat. Not an expert and have only seen the demo videos of the editor but it looks sweet and nolightmaps to render, all shadows and lighting are done in real time. Quote:
Crysis said the DX9 version doesnt support some of the stuff the DX10 version does like destructable enviroments.

| Not sure here but I am in no hurry to move to Vista. This vista dx10 thing is throwing the gaming world a bit of a curveball, no? zuiquan, I understand your pain. Typically the "down with EA" group is bitching about the games themselves. And to offer games AND include mod tools, is a great thing. Its what seperates us fron the console enthusiasts. To say it though, and then not offer it is a different thing entirely. Worthy of some hate. But its like any software developers... often making promises and release dates but then changing the matter.

| What i dislike, is how EA stoops to the lowest common denominator with games. Constantly trying to make games for mass appeal, across many play styles. Instead of producing several games from the same engine, each appealing and servicing, the different communities seperately. So we get weird games like BF2 and 2142. With 2m high bunnyhopping and nerfed weapons. Also the constant theme of extreme arcadeyness, and never a game for serious competition. I call it games with training wheels. And never any stuff in it, that takes skill to do well. Tbh i really think they are making games for novice players. With a lets attract new customers mentality, but forgetting about us old customers. This is something HL has done different and they are hugely successful because of it. There is still a huge community playing HL1 games, aswell as HL2. All their games seem to be more competitive somehow, and are better for teamplay imo. And all there games include aspects that take skill and lots of playing to master. Even the most arcadey HL games werent easy and took skill to be good at. I always feel EA games are made for more novice gamers (mass appeal..), for lack of a better description. Many of the Mods are different of course. Its just sad that its always up to mods to supply us with competitive games, or make a game somehow require some skill. Edit: Yeah i agree, HL also has way more mod support! What that really means is, much less is hardcoded. So you can make a game the way YOU need to, for your MOD. I get the feeling from EA (by their actions) that they dont want mods and see them as lost sales somehow..
