I see that these tv/monitor folks are muscling into the market, and just bitch-slapping the usual industry leaders by producing what from all appearances are pretty high quality goods for incredibly low prices. At least their prices are low while they're still stealing market share from the fat and happy. FWIW, tt seems I had read there was perhaps some relationship between the two outfits, but I'm unsure if that is true.
I've had a recent wonderful experience with a ViewSonic 22" flat widescreen LCD monitor, 1680x1050. It is absolutely the most crisp, brilliant, beautiful thing I've ever seen. And for $275 US. I would have had to have spent at least double to have gotten the same size and quality with the usual monitor makers. I'm in love.
Do yourself a favor and at least check Vizio (not to be confused with MicroSoft's "Visio" software) and ViewSonic out when you're in the market.
Dont know much about the vizio line. (Isnt that the "value" TV that sells in Best Buy?). I was ooking at a 1080p CRT, 32 inches. I actually declined because it did not look cool enough!!! I figured if I buy a kick ass HD TV its gotta look like something cool too! I wound up finding a flat panel 37 inch for less money anyway. And looks really good in the living room. Regular CRT TV's are plain ugly in a living room. These flat panels have that Lexus kind of look!
Either way for the PC I use the VX924 19". It actually has 1 stuck pixel, which from time to time drives me absolutely insane. So I "flick" it and it turns from pink to blue and/or back again, makes me feel better for about 10 seconds. This pixel doesnt stop me from agreeing with you though! Cant remember the model number VX944/2?!? Ive been out of the market for a little while, but it has a 2ms response time. I will also be watching for a reasonable projector for at least 1280x1024, they seem to be coming down in price as well. VS will definitely be in the running.

I guess ViewSonic has dropped their prices? I've always found that they were insanely expensive. Maybe it's just here in Canuckistan, but I'm going to stick with my gorgeous LG. <3
C: What the hell kind of name is Yossarian?
S: It's Yossarian's name, sir.
I have no knowledge of VS prior to about 6 weeks ago. My guess is that the low-pricing is a strategy to increase market share: they mean to suck some business away from the other guys, and when they feel they have developed a little brand loyalty and word-of-mouth, they'll more than likely raise prces to the point they think thay can do so without losing too many past and future customers. This is a common marketing startegy for companies trying to get themsleves known and get some more business. It costs money, because the idea is not to make a profit right off the bat....with this startegy they very well may lose money. It can work if you have a high-quality product, and I think ViewSonic does.
From what I can read and observe, the are pricing their equivalent models at anywhere from 40% to 70% of their competitors.
Ive been thinking new, bigger, monitor, for a while now. My old 17" isnt cutting it anymore. Especially when playing against 22"+ monitors, targets are alot bigger on larger monitors.
Westinghouse 37" 1080p LCD HDTV. with DVI, you can hook up your PC without any loss. I still see it for under $1,000. I bought it from Plasmabay.com for $805. I thought about a T.V. monitor, but i need the ability for extreme high-res for graphical work.
T.V.'s just arent HD enough yet for what i need.
1920x1080 not good enough??? Dude its insane with a PC, technically speaking though, it is a monitor. No tuner at all, thats what the cable box/video card is for. Trust me, this would blow your doors off! Plus with that real estate you could run several applications at once, side by side.
