i dont think i could ever get used to a TFT screen , even though over the years the quality went up and 2ms to prevent ghosting , i still prefer my 19 inch crt above all , even though its hard to find crts these days .

I tried so hard but I could only get one with shipping which would put the cost well over the 20.1 inch TFT that I ended up buying.

LOL, Here is a little something some of you guys might like, The Matrox triplehead2go. Here at work I am testing the dual head for a specific application. I can write a little review for it if you are interested. If you guys like this thing, wait a little while as the DVI version will be released any day now.

A little hardware review for you guys.

In my company the standard pc of choice is currently the IBM thinkcentre M52. I got charged with finding multi-monitor support for these pc’s. We have a huge field and small IT department, so this decision is tougher than you would think. We would need a product that would be easy to support if launched to the wider environment and future models of PC’s. The problem is that this PC is not your run of the mill tower. It is smaller and I would have to plug an internal video card into a funky daughter card 90 degree angle chumpee! This was fine when using a $30 card by lenovo when we used the S-51 model. As soon as we uploaded new images for then next line of PC’s to CDW, it was clear that my awesome decision was not so great in terms of expandability, my card was not supported by the next line of Think Centres which is BS considering it is manufactured by Lenovo. It was perfect, even, plug and play.

Ive always been interested in Matrox products, specifically the Parhelia line which is a card with triple monitor support. This particular line offered something different then the cards that were out there, only thing is, they always used inferior tech. As we switched to PCI they’d be AGP. PCI-E, they were dipping their toes into PCI. They’re cards always came at a premium as well $250-$500 for sub-par processing… So I waited and watched.

Enter the Matrox Dual and Triple Head2Go. We decided we had to get this product in because it may be exactly what we are looking for. I got the dually yesterday and started my testing. A little confusing at first but got it working playing with the refresh rate. The dually goes for about $160, our price and we don’t get huge deals, plus we would max out at about 10 of these for now, to run our command center. I really really like this product. The beauty is that you use your own existing video cards. Plug your cable into your card, then to the dualhead2go which branches out two cables from there. Pretty cool. Remember, our IBM’s run video off of the mobo, so with this, we are no longer constrained to IBM’s proprietary interface.

Basically, it tells your video card to produce screen res’s equal to the real estate involved, Then the unit splits it up to the other displays, your vid card is none the wiser. It includes the functionality to either void or add the image loss due to the bezels.

I still need to get benchmarks for this card yet so I plan on installing some graphic intensive stuff. I plan on calling them later because I want to know if I use fraps or something like that, will I get good readings, being that the device is “external”. I will let you all know what I find out. Im very interested in this product.

A couple of limitations for you. It does not support multiple widescreen monitors. Currently this is VGA. They have already announced DVI but it’s not out to the public yet so Im not biting until then. I expect the price to come in around $325US. If the benchmarks come in good, I may bite for the home PC triple, I just want to run framerates off of the Matrox device and make sure there is no loss. No, BF is not supported. But there are tons of games out there that will be a lot of fun. I believe that at one time, You could use the parhelia with BF but dice yanked that within an early patch, You could probably use it for SP though. Primarily Id use it for racing and flight sim games. Also, I am in the process of learning several graphics/web software and its hard to read and do tutorials the same time, I definitely need another monitor at home but using 2 for gaming? Hell no. Have to go with 3.

Supported resolutions, not the greatest in terms of high def, but gaming with peripheral vision, HAS to be the bomb!!!

One other thing I forgot. It seems that it is not as friendly to ATI users. I bought my Nvidia based on price, I like ATI stuff alot. This is something that they HAVE to address if they want to go to the next level.
