Upgrading comp? I have a custom shuttle pc with amd 4000 cpu, 1 gig of ram, Radeon x800 card. I run into a lot lot of lag playing battlefield 2 and get constant connection problems. I'm wondering if my computer could be to blame, or if my internet is actually acting up. I have 2mbps Internet though so I doubt it. Since x-mas is coming up I was wondering if there is anything you guys suggest I buy to upgrade, I was going to get another gig of ram, but I don't know if it'd make any difference except affect loading times. |
Re: Upgrading comp? Hi There, What x800 card is that? XL, Pro, GT, XT, XTPE, 128mb, 256mb,512mb? 2GB of RAM is supposed to make BF2 run smoothly with High Textures and generally make the game smoother to play and quicker to load. |
Re: Upgrading comp? Personally I'd go with MG42's advice to upgrade your ram for now and save some money up until the DX10 cards start dropping in price. |
Re: Upgrading comp? K, yeah it's a 256mb x800 Pro. But alright, I'll go for ram then, bf2 sure does load slow as hell. I'm mostly worried about FH2 because PoE2 sure loves to jerk around on me and make it hard to shoot somebody. |

Re: Upgrading comp? I am planning to upgrade once FH2 or some other modification/game interests me. I am argubly fine as of now. I sometimes play GoW on the Xbox360 and sometimes do a few rounds of BF2 on my anicent PC computer. |
Re: Upgrading comp? RAM yes. Wait for DX10 cards yes. Have you checked the speed of your cable (DSL Reports?). Anything of note running in the background, spyware, blah blah, blah. Seems like you should be ok right now but if plugging more RAM in doesn't help, let the witch hunt begin. |

Thats still a pretty decent card, and should handle FH2 well. Your CPU is fine unless you want to go dual core and your memory is fine but 2GB is always good. I upgraded my PC in March, the original spec was AMD64 3000+ Skt939, Foxconn NF4, 1GB PC3200 CAS2.5, 74GB Raptor, 120GB SATA, Audigy 2 ZS & X800XL PCI-E. I upgraded to a AMD64 3700+ @ 2.8Ghz, DFI Lanparty NF4, 2GB PC3200 CAS2,74GB Raptor, 120GB SATA, X-Fi Music & X1900XT 512MB and If I am being honest its alot of wasted power. Sure I play the occasional demanding game like COD2 or COH but 95% of my gaming is done in FH so I could have stuck with my old PC and maybe stuck in more RAM. I only play games for about 6 hours a week so that gives you an indication of how little I really push my system. My current PC will do me fine for ages, I will probobly add a 939 X2 processor in at some point ( most likly a 4400+/4800+) but for what I want it for it does the job perfectly. It may not get the biggest 3DMark score but the guys with huge E-Penis's have tiny dicks in real life :) You will always get these 16 year olds coming along with a PC that mommy and daddy brought them which is far faster than yours and makes them look 'cool' but you can always smile to yourself with the knowledge that they are never getting laid ;) |
Re: Upgrading comp? Aright MG42, I'll get ram then, I need something for christmas anyways besides Company of Heroes :). Thanks for your help guys. |
