That's one more reason why I'm not going to Army in Russia at 18. There is a draft in Russia so everyone at 17 or 18 has to go. Going to the Army = Chechen War most likely.

Not everyone has to go. if you study on - I think university (or equivalent) level - you are given a release from the army.

C.J. Chivers in Esquire (June 2006) did a pretty good, if slightly melodramatically written, story on the Beslan thing. Full text is here:
