thanks infinitely for this thread so i say!

also one of the disadvantages of the belgian army at the time, they had to carry full packs and equipment 24/7 at the time, spare clothing, food rations, recipients for food,ammo,weapons, even sometimes a tent, while the germans just jumped out of their trucks as light as they could be. another belgian army mobility trouble. thats one of those things so easely fixed,and still makes a major difference.

Excellent post with mucho detail.

I saw recently some of what you were saying on the History Channel, with the biggest caveat being the failure of the Maginot Line.

What made the Belgiums tough though was the fact that Jean Claude Van Damme relatives were fighting for them...

@ Madcat: The loadout for the typical infantryman wasn't exactly light indeed:

Pictures of my grandfather in the Belgian army. He was mobilised at the outbreak of ww2 and was caught prisoner.
