| i heard about eben emael, but its true, you dont find much info about the belgian army on the net. thanks infinitely for this thread so i say! also one of the disadvantages of the belgian army at the time, they had to carry full packs and equipment 24/7 at the time, spare clothing, food rations, recipients for food,ammo,weapons, even sometimes a tent, while the germans just jumped out of their trucks as light as they could be. another belgian army mobility trouble. thats one of those things so easely fixed,and still makes a major difference. |

| Excellent post with mucho detail. I saw recently some of what you were saying on the History Channel, with the biggest caveat being the failure of the Maginot Line. What made the Belgiums tough though was the fact that Jean Claude Van Damme relatives were fighting for them... Cheap joke I know...

| That would be 600 000, plus some 10 000 "Rijkswachters" @ Madcat: The loadout for the typical infantryman wasn't exactly light indeed: ![]() Cyclists-Border patrols, and chasseurs ardennais had a lighter load, as they could put their heavier gear on their bikes:
