D'oh, cheese's popped up right in front of mine in quick post! Guess my random guess was right though... I think that's an M1 bazooka since there is no flame guard to speak of |
Re: Gaunty's Picture Quiz 2 2 Attachment(s) OK, before this one's done, I will put in a few of my own (don't have time to set up imageshack, but just for fun, see attachments.) Yes, I know what they are. I think 2. is a Rheinmetall 30mm aircraft cannon. I assume 6. is somewhere in Manchuria in 1939, and I have been looking through image galleries of German aces with Knight's cross, oak leaves and swords (and diamonds) but with no luck for 5. There were only about 160 recipients of that award in total, and of the Luftwaffe ones, well..uh. Hint: those are major's collar tabs. |
Re: Gaunty's Picture Quiz 2 That first pic of yours is a captured Universal Carrier with what looks like 3 bazookas mounted on the back and crew armed with Panzerfausts. The second one is something Russian, presumably on the same lines as the first - a small armoured vehicle fitted with various rocket/AT projectile launchers. |

Re: Gaunty's Picture Quiz 2 #2 is a He 280 #4 is a Japanese J-7 #5 is the Campini Caproni CC. 2 |
Re: Gaunty's Picture Quiz 2 1. I think this is HMS Cossack capturing the Altmark in 1940. 2. is the He 280 (Correct about the captured Bren carrier & the Wanze.) The former was known as a Panzerjaeger Bren, carried 6 Panzerfausts, and was supposed to fire them pretty much in rapid sequence at close-in targets. It was used through the war in reasonable numbers; the Wanze and similar Borgward-based vehicles (Borgward is a now-defunct German car manufacturer) were sort of the German equivalent, although not nearly as often-used or manufactured, as the Universal Carrier. Wanzes were reportedly used in the defense of Berlin. |
Re: Gaunty's Picture Quiz 2 2. Heinkel He 280 4. Seen this before but I don't remember its name. :( |
