Re: Gaunty's Picture Quiz 2 1. I think this is HMS Cossack capturing the Altmark in 1940. 2. is the He 280 (Correct about the captured Bren carrier & the Wanze.) The former was known as a Panzerjaeger Bren, carried 6 Panzerfausts, and was supposed to fire them pretty much in rapid sequence at close-in targets. It was used through the war in reasonable numbers; the Wanze and similar Borgward-based vehicles (Borgward is a now-defunct German car manufacturer) were sort of the German equivalent, although not nearly as often-used or manufactured, as the Universal Carrier. Wanzes were reportedly used in the defense of Berlin. |
