| Didn't the Soviets do the whole Mistle thing too? I seem to remember reading about them launching a couple of fighter-towed bombers full of explosives during the huge artillery barrage before Seelow Heights. |

| Well we can all say that every country in WWII had some kind of "creative" idea they wanted to put to use. Espicially Japan.

| Most of them are over the top and stupid. There's creativity. And there's stupidity. To drop one bomb on NY from that altitude would require some very serious calculations. The crew would have to be scientists.

| But,really, why they want to destroy NY and Chicago? I know that these are war objctives, but isn´t better to bomb Washington? |

| Another link with information about suborbital bomber projects, including the Soviet Antipodal Bomber: http://www.project1947.com/gfb/antiplofer.htm Kar98: Why NY/CHI instead of DC? Well, Chicago was/is the biggest rail and transport hub in the US, and New York the financial center and largest port on the East Coast. In that link above you'll see a diagram of estimated blast damage to Manhattan, not sure about the source. |

| The more likely threat were u-boats with the capability to fire V-1 from off the east coast of North America. In recent years I believe one or two of these u-boats have been found on the ocean floor off the east coast. When I get a chance I'll see if I can dig up where I read/saw this bit on the u-boats.

AFAIK, the land based V1 were first fired sometime in '43 or something? By summer '44, all the French uboat bases had to be abandoned, thus making it extremly hard to operate many uboats on the east coast of US/Canada. In this short year, I doubt that German scientists were able to construct/modify uboats which were able to launch them. The whole idea is even less belivable than that guy who supposedly found a Type XI uboat on the Eastern Coast...
