The early 9800SE 256 bit cards had 4 or the 8 pipelines turned off in the BIOS. You used to be able to get a software patcht hat turned the 4 closed pipelines back on adn made it perform as good as a 9800pro for alot less money.
Now that this ability has become well known all the card manufacturers have revised the cards so this ability is disabled so I would not worry about it anymore.
Also it was only on the 9800SE that this applied to. Your 9800Pro should have all the pipelines on.
My choices now for a new card would be minimum of 9800SE, 9800Pro, 9800XT, or Geforce FX 5700, 5900.
9800SE still out performs most of the 9600 line. but since prices have dropped a bit the difference isnt as great anymore.
Ok I have decided to get a 9800pro but I am unsure which one I should get. Its a toss up between a Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB or a Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB. If I was to get a 256mb version I would ship it from USA as a 256mb costs the same as a 128mb version in UK. But people seem to think the 256mb has poor quality ram.
