HELP: I'm indecisive about which comp to get

I'm sick and f-------- tired of getting 15fps in a server because my computer f-------- blows. I have 256 ram (I know, I know, its a wonder the damn game even functions at all) and the computer itself is 5years old and in need of a serious replacement for many many reason (windows me, nuff said). The type of ram I have cost $150 for a stick of 256, and I HAVE to buy 2. I have a nice 128meg videocard, which helped some upon its arrival but it cant pick up the slack for the rest of the comp. So here is my big decision. Should I get this Emachine http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....oryId=cat01172 (cept I found same 1 with 512 ram for $50 more at Bestbuy around here) OR Get my friend in Tx to build me one and get it shipped here, and risk it not working at all? You guys help me make the call...thanks.
NOTE: Both are going to run me around $500, give or take a little.

Whatever you do: DON'T BUY A DELL! Go for AMD instead. My cousin has a 2ghz dell and he can't even play bf on it because it's so choppy(and it's not hes internet connection.) My homemade AMD Athlon +1800(1.53ghz) with a GF4 64 meg(!) anal rapes hes computer, and my comp sucks!

Buy AMD and try to get it from a small shop, where you can choose the parts yourself and give them a few extra-bucks to put it all together.
Never buy PCs from larger shopchains like DELL!

YOu gotta love the DELL commericals. Its hard not to laugh at what they say and how much they charge for the crap computers they put out (well for gaming at least).

i have a dell. not a particulary good one either, definetly not as good as your friends there. BF runs completely smooth on it. my only problem is long load times...

It takes me like 5 minutes to load a map, most times when I get in there the map has already titled to one sides favor. Or, anytime I get in combat, my FPS goes to 15

Before I bought more SDRAM and a new harddisk it took me 10-15 min to load a map, but now it takes 1-2 min. The memory increase from 256MB SDRAM PC-100 to 768MB didn't help as much as the hard disk upgrade to a 7200 RPM drive did, but both were really necessary for servers with low amounts of tickets.
And you should build your PC yourself, but only if you know someything about it or know somebody who can help, so you don't destroy the parts.
And I get FPS between 5 and 80, depending on map and amount of players.

The main advantage to building it yourself is that it is easy to get replacement parts. Try to get a repacement power supply or motherboard from a 1yr old Dell, Gateway, or IBM. It aint fun. And most Brand names wont sell the parts to individuals so you will have to take it in or ship it back to manufacturer.

The only decent E-machine is the Monster line, they were decent, the rest are cheap versions of the bottom line of brand X.

Also you have to be careful who you buy from but I have gotten some great deals on ebay. If you have a credit card or if someone will buy the parts for you then check here http://www.pricewatch.com/

Just get the parts, if youre not sure which parts to get ask us. We can then give you a detailed description of how to put them together, it's really easy.
