exclaim FH2 mapping tutorials

Hi everybody,

I have decided to write some tutorials for the upcoming release of FH2, I'l try to mainly focus on something that is either incomplete, confusing or simply doesnt exist. But if you people would like i could write some more basic tutorials also, maybe with a ww2 theme so that you dont become all to depressed with modern warfare

Link --------> FH2 mapping tutorials

I have created a beginners guide how to setup the bf2editor to work with Forgotten Hope 2:

Installing and setting up the bf2editor for Forgotten Hope 2.

I have also converted the basic EA tutorials to HTML, since the word format in these circumstances is ...bad:

Battlefield 2 Modding Tutorial 1 - Creating a Basic Terrain
Battlefield 2 Modding Tutorial 2 - Creating a Basic Level
Battlefield 2 Modding Tutorial 2 - Creating a Basic Level
Battlefield 2 Modding Tutorial 4 - The Bunker - 3Ds Max Version
Battlefield 2 Modding Tutorial 4 - The Bunker - Maya
Battlefield 2 Modding Tutorial 5 - Importing the Bunker
Battlefield 2 Modding Tutorial 6 - Building the Car - Maya

Understanding Heightmaps and how to paint them in Photoshop

I will try to help anyone whon gets into trouble and also http://bfeditor.org/forums/ has good information and great helpful modders.

Texturing terrain system in bf2editor

My first tutorial (in fact my first tutorial ever, please be gentle) is about the things i wanted to know about the texturing system when i started mapping. This information is scattered on the bf2edtor.org forums and sometimes hard to find. Especially the part about lowdetailmap is important:

Proably spelling mistakes and other stuff, please tell me if you notice!

Its my plan to write these tutorials also:
  • Creating heightmaps in World Machine
  • Texturing the World Machine terrain in Terragen
  • Converting Terragen skyboxes to bf2 format.
  • Texturing and unwrapping, uwmapping basic statics and importing to the editor in 3ds max.
  • Lightsettings explained
You could pm or reply with suggestions of things you would like to have a tutorial about in the bf2editor.

FH2 tutorial: Convert Terragen skies to bf2 sky format

Hi everybody,

I have heard several people complain that they cant use their Terragen skies in bf2/fh2, well with this tutorial you can! Its based on a original tutorial by Bibi5000 but this one is much more complete and will save a few hours of trial and error.

As usual there may be some errors/confusing stuff so please report if you notice.

FH2 tutorial: Create your heightmaps in World Machine

Now you can use World Machine to create heightmaps, this is as far as i know the only tutorial explaining how to do this on the bf2 engine. World Machine is a very powerful tool that basicly lets you create any terrain you want.

Great work, fenrig!

Just a note, if you check the vanilla lowdetailtexture.dds's the red and green channels are for rocky parts (2) and the blue channel is for the flat areas (1).
And I would just use lowdetail type 0 for small patches, the flat sand areas should use type 1

Thank you Real-Badseed and Lobo

Regarding the lowdetailmap, hmm youre probably right ill do some extensive tests and see what i come up to.

And yes your probably right, my present level looks weird from the air and that has probably to with on of the basic textures set to lowlevel 0, but if i could just patch it as you said it would probably look better. Thanks for the feedback.

Very cool indeed!
The stuff at bfeditor really is here, there & everywhere. To have all this info consolidated together is a great idea.
