Yes, this tutorials will be a great help for our future FH2 fan mappers, I have learned to use DEM's to make heightmaps, Terragen to get the textures, and Ecomap for the detail layers and the process is so fast as 1 or 2 days to get an heightmap fully textured.

I can't wait to learn your World Machine tutorial, that's the technic I am still missing

Yes in the old days there was editor42 which was great but texturing in the bf2editor manualy is soooo painful and you'll constanly risk the editor screwing up hours and hours of work cause of the bugs. Can you make all your detaillayers with ecomap? if so its the tool i have been waiting for.

Youre lucky my next tutorial will be world machine since i feel this is lacking, i havent seen a single tutorial on world machine on bfeditor.org. Its very suprising for such a good tool.

FH2 tutorial: Create your heightmaps in World Machine

Now you can use World Machine to create heightmaps, this is as far as i know the only tutorial explaining how to do this on the bf2 engine. World Machine is a very powerful tool that basicly lets you create any terrain you want.

Read it here:

The basic (free) version of World Machine only supports 512 size heightmaps so i tought most new users will use this one.

But if you want to change the size there is a button on top row called World Extents And Resolution (it looks like a black meter next to a green hill kinda). The only thing you need to change is the size to 1024 and the level size in bf2editor to 1024 the rest in the tutorial will be the same.

I have updated the texturing system tutorial with the correct way to create a lowdetail texture dds. The previous way was slightly wrong. Also added the recomended layer order for detailtextures.
Texturing terrain system in bf2editor

deathfromabove2010: The Terragen tutorial will be added when time is provided, I want to add the most detailed information i can muster so that you all wont make the same mistakes as I did. If you're impatient there is a tutorial on the bfeditor.org forums to its not 100% complete, be sure to read DICE-o2car's comment about not using anything more than a total RGB value of 255. You must also learn how to use the surface mapping system in Terragen: Terragen™
