It's quite standard program kit for advanced mapper so as Natty Wallo said, don't be scared by it!
It's actaully very easy to use all this stuff, and after short time you can't imagine mapping only with help of single map editor.

Yeah, I remember the days when I made maps only in BC. I ALWAYS use stuff like Notepad, Wordpad, Photoshop, all of that stuff. It really adds the extra quality people demand.
