Using torrent software through a router

Title says it all. uTorrent worked fine before, then I got a router, now I am in WAY over my head. I understand the basic problem (I think) the router has an internet IP and assigns an internal IP to my computer. Now both uTorrent and TeamSpeak server don't work.

Can anyone give me any help at all? If nothing else works I will simply unplug my cable from the router back directly into the modem to download 2.15.

I've tried to get my head round this torrent thing too, tried last night and the download was pityfull, I then realised I had to configure my router as you mention, total headf#ck for a technophobe like me, hope to get a decent direct download tonight.

Did you try this dl server already (link below)? Not sure about the speed but it would give you a headstart anyway.

uTorrent has build in Netwizard that can check if your preferred port is open for the torrent. If its not the wizard tells you to go to this site: PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall. From there find the router you have and it gives you instructions how to set up static ip and how to allow certain ports in your router.
