I still dont understand why no one from the team is willing to look into the Vista issue
Hi all and you "Kody"

1. After to have work on FH, now I can say :

It is too difficult to create a patch on "FH" cause the scheduling (programming) rules are very strict (very restrictive) on windows Vista. There are three possible solutions:

a. The most difficult:

Completely reprogram "FH" for "Bf1942" but it takes time and developers of "FH" now working on FH2.

b. Much less difficult

"EVEN BALANCE" could propose a version of PunkBuster (like the one that worked before October 2007) assuming compatibility "Windows98-Me" in Windows Vista. Unfortunately (unfortunaly?) PunkBuster developers do not want to do that.

c. Very easy:

If you have Vista then play "FH" only on servers not protected by PunkBuster. For example "TheDamnedPriest (TDP) in Germany but there are also in the World other servers no Punkbuster protected (no protected by Punkbuster I can say). It does not matter if there are few cheaters. (In reality there are very few cheaters!)

In all cases it is better to meet a cheater than to be kicked by "PunkBuster"! The choice is ours!

2. I got an answer about Punkbuster on Windows7 Bęta. See please:

Bf1942 And Its Mods On Windows7 Bęta Version - PunksBusted.com Sponsored by Clanwarz

3. "Runner21" member of PsB (Punkbusted.com 's site) Staff said:

"FWIW until Win7 is RTM Even Balance will not support it, therefore you will continually get kicked. As with previous version of Windows you can get the game to run using compatibility mode but PB will still kick for unknown API/Dxd errors and a host of other kick messages."

We can make a conclusion:

At this time (2009 February); cause Even Balance cannot support Windows7 Bęta, we cannnot make good tests about our games on all servers Punkbuster protected (protected by Punkbuster I say).

This is not a good thing because "Even Balance" and "Microsoft" would have to collaborate to test Windows7 Beta! This means that players will encounter many problems to play their games on servers PunkBuster protected (protected by Punkbuster I say) when the final version of Windows7 comes out.

Best regard and enjoy this day!

Thanks for mentioning TDP, the last time I checked - a few months ago - they had PB active.
As its one of the most active servers its quite a relieve to be able to play again.

But there seems to be still one problem with BF42 in Win98 mode, it doesnt support custom resolutions (e.g. 1680x1050) anymore. In XP-mode it works fine, but in Win98 it just uses 640x480 :/

What about XP-64 bit's compatibility with FH1? Does anyone know or tried it?

Hi all and you "Kody" and "chhotgunner" and "pasherz".

1. For example here on 3 Pc (1 with nvidia 9800 Gt x2; 1 with nvidia 9600 Gt ; 1 on ATI for portable book "Asus G2 special gamer" ) we can play

a. On the 2 PC with Nvidia graphics cards with screens "SAMSUNG" 22'' (22 pouces) (Native resolution is 1680 x 1050) , and using in "Nvidia Control Panel" the option "UTILISER LA MISE A L'ECHELLE NVIDIA" = "USE SCALING NVIDIA" (I do not know the exact sentence in English, sorry). We can choose these options:

640x480x32
800x600x32
1024x768x32
1152x864x32
1280x960x32 (the best here).

A small distorsion exist (no linear effect F(circle)--> Ellipse ).

Textures and sounds pack run fine .

About sounds option we choose :

Quality: 44 KHz = 44 000 Hz

Sounds detail: Higher (highest?).

b. On the "Asus G2 special gamer" (with ATI video Card) the best resolution is about FH for BF1942:

1024x768x32 (With no linear effect too F(Circle)-->Ellipse.

About sounds option we choose :

Quality: 44 KHz = 44 000 Hz

Sounds detail: Higher (highest?).

And also textures and sounds pack run fine .

2. I take an answer about your system on 64bits:

a. As you know Vista 64 bit is not optimized for the games and no chance (no luck) new Microsoft manager wants now to developpe new Windows OS all the three years. In this eventuality (condition) I do not think Microsoft's developpers are interrestiing on Vista now. They want for their customers to developpe Windows7 (I test the Bęta version, very good and it's running fine on small configuration)

b. I also say "if all your drivers (graphic card's drivers; sounds card or

sounds cheapset 's drivers are updated and DirectX 9c is uptaded ) :

Download details: DirectX Redist (November 2008)

I think in your Land you have a free site to update automaticaly your drivers. Like "touslesdrivers.com" in France (Frankreich).

Mes Drivers - détection en ligne automatique de la configuration matérielle et des drivers compatibles

(Click on "LANCER LA DETECTION" , all your material are detected and you have to update your drivers : choose whql version by security).

When you updated one driver it's better to boot (restart again your PC).

Do not forget in compatibility parameters (click mouse's right button on your FH's shortcut) and in compatibility choose:

Run this program in compatibility mode "Windows98-Me".

"Disable deskop effect" .

"Disable visual theme".

"Run this program as an administrator".

You can also deactivate UAC on Vista.

c. In these conditions you can play without problem FH for Bf1942 on servers no punkbuster protected (no protected by punkbuster) in "Windows 98-Me" compatibility mod on Windows Vista.

d. WARNING: Plenty of maps are not playable (played, plaid,) in Single player mode!

Best regard!

And excuse me please about my big mistakes in English, cause it's not my first language. Thank you very much for that!

My problem is that when i choose run in compatability with windows 98/ME i'll click the shortcut then a small blackbox flashed in the top left corner, and my computer goes "Ding" and nothing comes up after that.

Hello!

As I said generally this problem exists if you do not disable "visual effect" and "deskop composition" I verified this problem here when I began to test Windows Vista (I was one of Bęta tester on Vista OS).

But now (but it's easy to say) the most easy method is to buy WindowsXP OEM version (you can buy it legally in the World -->End on June 2009 now !
For example here in Frankreich (France) we find WindowsXP family for 80 € (maybe 160$) and Windows XP PRO OEM version for 120 €. (maybe 240$).
It's the best solution to play FH and others "old" games and Mods.

In these conditions you can make a dual boot Windows XP <-> Windows Vista.

Best regard!

Courage!
