Default FH .7 Crashes on Vista, despite Compatability Settings

Hi.

I've just downloaded the 3 part download form of Forgotten Hope, and I've run into a problem: on XP settings and without, every map crashes before it can load. I downloaded and installed the 1st 2 parts from Filefront and the 3rd part from Fileplanet after the 3rd part from FF didn't work.

Anyone else got advice or had this happen?

I tryed Vista as well and talked to several people, sadly it does not play well with FH. For me it would not run even when useing the proper shortcuts.
Some people can get it running it as admin and editing your shortcut.

Right, FH on Vista WORKS.

You do need to run it 'as Administrator' and you do need to run it in compatability mode for Windows98/ME.

This is confirmed with the recent NVIDIA drivers and an 8800GTX :

ForceWare Release 158
Version: 158.24
Release Date: June 1, 2007
WHQL Driver

No missing crosshairs, menus or anything, it works just fine.

Bowie.

Same problem... The map loads and then the game crashes to the desktop. This happens in any game mode. I have tried the settings you recommended, and it still doesn't work... I have Vista Home Premium and an nVidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 video card. Here's a screen of my current settings:

Make sure you have the most recent (non-beta) NVIDIA drivers, they were the first ones to work for me, which is why I posted!

So why haven't you done this already?

I'd like to help, but I don't have vista and probably will stay clear of it for quite some time. It's a damn shame the support for "older" games is this bad on Vista. Kind of reminds me of DOS based games not running on winXP on win98 compatibility settings. What I'd like to know is what does Microsoft think "compatibility" is

Well, with the 158.24 drivers, and the settings shown above, FH still crashes in Vista for me.

Nevermind, I got it. Had the compat set for xp, not 98/me

That problem sounds more like the crash to desktop bug then anything Vista related though Taz. Have a look in my sig for possible ways to fix this (not guarranteed, I'm afraid )

Welcome to the forums Tazman123!

Is this a custom map you're trying to run? If yes, download a debugger and see if it cares to point out what might be the problem. If this map certainly works on other Windowses, make sure you've done everything as you should with the compatibility settings: Forgotten Hope for Battlefield 1942 on Windows Vista

I'm running FH on Vista.

I believe I have the most current Beta drivers and yes the run as Admin and compatibility Win 98, even for the ASE.

Looks good but appears to have lag in some instances for me.

Punkbuster had to be loaded manually at first but no problems since.
