strange fear crashing problem?

Ive been having this weird problem. Ive had fear working fine before, but after i put together my new setup shown below, ive been having problems, when i played everything was fine but when i tried to close the game, the desktop would partially show and some of the image of fear would still be showing, then my monitor would start slowly flickering on and off. then i updated fear from 1 to 1.05, this problem seemed to dissapear but then i tried to load my save files and this screen came up and fear crashed (http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3.../fearerror.jpg) after that i started fear back up and a new game, worked for about 30 seconds then it froze and i had the screen flickering problem and had to restart. then i tried one more time and it worked a little longer til i tried to quicksave, it froze again and i had to restart. anyone spare a guess at what this is?

You quite possibly might need more memory?

Re: strange fear crashing problem?

more than a gig?, ive had it running on 1 gig before, before the upgrade i mean

Re: strange fear crashing problem?

Possibly...the min. system requirements is 512 ram, so maybe that is the reason youre having the crashes....try it out because all your other specs seem fine.

Re: strange fear crashing problem?

i can't seeing it being the memory because it's fast ram pc3200 ddr400 RAM which is 1 gig thats more then enough and the specs on the machine is right my pc is the same no problems what so ever i think it's the invidia 7900 which needs at least 400 watts power supply maybe the windows needs direct X lastest updates, maybe the windows aint installed properly maybe a wire might be losse in the machine on the grahpics card 12 volt coneters ??? check everything otherwise thing might get <damaged>

Ooops, i only saw one of your 1X512 simpletech and i thought you only had 512mb of RAM...my bad...anyways, try updating all your drivers and hopefully that works.

Re: strange fear crashing problem?

but it only happens in fear, ill look for the newest drivers anyway

Re: strange fear crashing problem?

try changeing the grahpics card to a lower spec and see what happens thats if you have a lower grahpics card around

I have a 7900 too, and have been having the same prblems, maybe something to do with the 7900 is the problem. I have tried everything and nothing worked so I am guessing it has something to do with the 7900.

Re: strange fear crashing problem?

maybe it's the 7900 series chipsets ive heard people having problems with such cards my advice get the ati radeon 9800 maybe the nvidia 6600gt and nvidia 6200 any other cheaper version and see what happens

Re: strange fear crashing problem?

most likely its the 7900, guess ill email the techs at evga and see what they have to say

Re: strange fear crashing problem?

ummmm some texture errors on counterstrike source, but that only happened once once so im guessing it wasnt serious, but everything else works fine aside from fear.

Re: strange fear crashing problem?

I had the exact symptoms you described when I exit Quake 4. The desktop would partially show and some to the image of Quake 4 would still be showing. Then my monitor would start flickering on and off. I have to reset my machine to clear.

I am running a new install of windows XP on an ASUS A8N32 SLI mmobo with 2GB of OCZ and a 4400 X2 processor. I have a new EVGA 7900 GT KO video card.

I have not tried FEAR yet. It looks like the common denominator between atticusg47, Xerxes161 and me is the 7900 graphics card.

Re: strange fear crashing problem?

i had that problem yes, but i rma'd my first 7900 and i dont have that problem anymore, now its only fear that drives my comp insane

Re: strange fear crashing problem?

I am having problems wiht fear also similar to yours atticus47.
Ever since i downlaoded the 1.05 patch my game doesnt even start up. It did for the first 3 times. When i tried to load my save game it crashes.then i started fear again after that and it crashed. My specs are listed below

Asus A8N-E mobo
AmD 4400+ X2
1 gig corsair xms memory
250 gig hdd
500 watt psu
Ati radeon X1900xt 512 mb

Im pretty sure its not my specs but maybe the patch?

Re: strange fear crashing problem?

hmm, yes i just tried fear again and, this time i started a new game everything seemed fine until the opening vid got to the part where it shows all the soldiers standing in line, all the soldiers heads were yellow and other things were yellow and it froze right there, almost completely locking up my comp, i could mizimize but could not get rid of fear so i forced it to restart, this is on 1.05 btw.

Re: strange fear crashing problem?

oooo i just tried it again and i skipped all the opening videos and beat the first level and half the second with no probs at all, performs amazingly too, rock solid 60fps v snyc'ed max res and everything and 4x af, soft shadows off and with soft shadows on only drops to 30 with many shoadows on screen. woot!

Re: strange fear crashing problem?

srry for not replying sooner, but, try reinstalling, ya it sounds too easy, thats what i thought at first, but i reinstalled it and it works fine. i run at maximum settings with no lag.(and you dont have to skip any storyline videos i you like them)

I have a problem too... on the first level when you have to rejoin with the rest of the team. When I go back the way i came from the game crashes.
I'm not too sure about the specs. but when i find them i'll post them.

I've tried reinstalling.

I run dual 6600's and basically the same setup same amount diff manufactorors of ram and my PSU is a little less. But mine runs fine despite being generally buggy.
