Patch 1.03
 

Everytime i install patch 1.03 for F.E.A.R. it cant read the fear dvd. A pop-up comes up and says that it cant read the resources. My game works on patches 1.01 and 1.02 but it wont work when i update it to 1.03.

Help me!!!! I'd appreciate it.

If it's the DVD version there should only be one disc, as DVDs can handle up to 4.5Gigs of data.

Did you make sure you installed the right patch version? There is 1.03 full, 1.01 - 1.03, and 1.02 - 1.03.

I have noticed most people are reporting success with the 1.02 - 1.03 version, which is the most commonly used, as most were at version 1.02 before updating.

Try going to Sierra's site to get it. Sometimes there are gaming sites here and there that have corrupt patches once in a while.

how come i got 5 discs but when i play i only can use the 5th disc in my DVD player?

Because you have the CD verson. Perhaps you misunderstood me, I did not say you only need to use one disc with the DVD version, the DVD version only HAS one disc.

DVD versions of games are generally put on one disc, as an entire game usually fits on just one DVD. CDs can only take 700MB of data, DVD discs can take over 6 times that amount.

There are still people that have CD ROMs rather than DVD players though. Usually the way it works since DVD drives have become popular, is the game will initially come out on CD, and if it sells well they make a DVD one disc version as well, which often contains patches too.

yes i know i got the CD version but when i put my disc in the CD place it dosnt work..i have to use my DVD player:confused:

Perhaps you have an older model or brand of CD ROM that has compatabiity issues. Check for a driver update for it, but it may just be incompatable.

I tried updating the game in various ways but it still says "it cant read disk/Please insert CD/DVD". Before it said "cant read the resouces", now it says it cant read disk. I tried the update "1.01-1.02_1.03". First i updated it from 1.00, that didnt work, then i tried to update it from 1.02, and it still didnt work. The game only plays on 1.00 and 1.02, but not on 1.03.?????????????????????? I downloaded the patch from sierra, so it should work? Maybe my disk is messed up?????

G, I forgot to say that the CD ROM may not work if you do not have it designated as the D drive. Your OS may be setup to use the DVD player as the default D drive. It's no big deal to just use the DVD player for games and movies, and the CD player for music and apps & progs though. In fact that way you use each less and they last longer.

gggggg, sorry, I don't know what your problem is. Have you tried using Sierra's tech support? The official F.E.A.R. forum is here btw, and there are LOTS of mods actively participating there.

Its ok, I give up anyways. I'll just unistall it until the next patch comes out i guess. Hopefully the next patch will fix this problem.

Sorry it didn't work out, but if you find you have the time, ask around at the VU F.E.A.R. forum, lots of info there.

You're basically just missing a few new mp maps and PB if you don't use 1.03. It depends on how much you play mp I guess whether you'll miss it or not.

Personally, I've not even bothered installing 1.03 yet, and am not sure I want to.
