PC: It's even nicer up close, but I think for me to pretend to be part of the dev team is quite a stretch, I can't even handle typing in commmand prompt lines!

John: I was going to say that, but I thought you already approached them with that angle. I feel for ya bro.

I don't mean the dev team, the marketing team would more likely be the ones to talk to.

Why don't you get on the VU forum and ask the admin Greg about it.

What i want to know Omen is how you can run Fraps (i presume you used that) and F.E.A.R at the same time. What i mean is that whenever i start recording ,the framerate turns incredibly choppy and the FPS is generally no higher than 10-15.This happens with Half-life 2 aswell....hence why my videos are like watching a slideshow at times.

Well that new rig of yours no doubt handles it better than mine. Use Game Cam instead, I don't use Fraps anymore. I never made one Fraps video with in game sound, it couldn't record it in sync, a common problem many complain about, but the most common complaint is FPS drop. Conversely, better FPS is one of the most common raves about Game Cam, form those who have switched over.

Fraps writes HUGE source clip files, GC's are literally 1/20 the size. Fraps lags like an SOB, as you pointed out, Game Cam does not. Game Cam Lite is only $10, and is better than Fraps. Game Cam Full ($15 upgrade) adds Cached Video Recording, you can hit a hotkey to record up to 2 minutes of the previous gameplay without even having record on.

Game Cam Full also adds audio bit rate variables, up to 60 FPS recording (not needed though), and zoom (a bit blurry from what I've seen).

Both versions of Game Cam have Smart Capture, a feature that automatically detects and adjusts for the game you're playing, the game settings, and your system spec, to give you the best quality to performance ratio for each game. You don't have to use it, you can set up the adjustments for each game manually if you know how, but SC works beatifully, and is liked even by experienced users simply for the time and hassle avoided in using it.

Game Cam Lite (and Smart Capture) cap the record FPS to 30, but unlike Fraps, does NOT cap the gameplay FPS at that setting. The problem with Fraps is in capping both the record and gameplay FPS, you need a gargantuan system just to use 60 FPS setting. It was common for me to have to drop the record setting to 20-30 FPS with Fraps.

It is common to get 45 FPS with a 30 FPS setting using Game Cam, but your sytem might do even better.

If you try Game Cam, be sure to check out their planetgamecam.com forum and FAQ. Little things like using V Sync while recording is good info to know. Game Cam has smoothing mechanisms similar to V Sync, and works smoother and faster with it on.

I typically use a compression profile of 1.4Mbps video/512x384 res/192kbps audio to make the latest videos you've seen. I also capture at the same size (512x384), which is the same as using half size recording with Fraps, if your in game res is set to 1024x768.

Don't believe what most people say about Fraps being the best. There are plenty people out there saying that whom haven't ever tried Game Cam.

One word of caution, the ONLY problem I've had with Game Cam is in downloading, installing, and validating it, which has to be done with each new build version (free for lifetime). I found out this was due to their servers being sensitive to IP changes, even though the only registration info asked for when purchasing and validating the product are name, email, and registration code (which is mailed to you).

Thus, if you ever change your ISP, (in my case just a connection speed change with the same ISP), you may have to notify Kataline, the GC webmaster, so she can look at your login attempts, and reset their server to match the new IP. You also need to completely uninstall the previous version, before installing a new one, including Prefetch, registry keys, and shell folders.

All in all though, the tech support from Game Cam is far better than Fraps in my experience.
