Personally, when it comes to politics I'm fairly independent, not leaning towards Republican/Democrat/Conservative/Liberal in any way (Why don't they work together or abide by what George Washington said...?), but I see this as being purely unamerican. I'm sure everyone will be having assemblies at your schools. So what does it all mean? Well seeing how it's on November 11th, its celebrating the end of WW1. But overtime it has simply been about mourning the loss of life in WW1 and WW2, and other wars too. I'm sure this is a very important day for many of us, it is for me, because I have many ancestors who served in both World Wars. So I was just curious about what your ancestors did in the WW1 and WW2. My great uncles were in the the 1st Canadian Corps and fought in Scicily and Italy, one I lost at Ortona, and 1 at the Hitler Line which was right behind the Gustav Line. In WW1 my Great Grandfather fought in the 105th PEI Highlanders Battalion, and was at Vimy Ridge, along with every other Canadian in the Army(All 4 Canadian Divisions took part in the battle). I have Union Jack in my room that my Grandpa gave to me, he said that my Great Grandfather had raised it over Vimy Ridge when his platoon had cleared their section. Another Great Grandfather was in the Danish Army, of course it surrendered a few hours after being attacked. My grandmother told me that the Germans would always come to her farm and buy butter(Danish butter is the best in the world, just ask the Germans). I guess the officers of the 116th Panzer Division enjoyed her mother's butter. :lol:

However there has been discussion before about legislating some health into foods by banning various additives and foodstuffs. There's been talk about trans fats, high fructose corn syrup, several other sweeteners, and pretty much anything else that could be remotely bad for you.

So here is my simple question. Should the government be able to regulate the healthiness of foods? It got me thinking. Back in the Victorian age, the common... Recently I was reading a book on various serial killers through out the years. It got me thinking.

Back in the Victorian age, the common perception of violent criminals was that they were "morally insane" - individuals who lacked the morals and sensibilities that keeps everyone else from committing rape and murder. In other words, "evil".

The current attitude (At least in the USA, I'm not so sure about other nations) towards serial killers, mass murderers, and similar violent people are that they are clinically insane. In other words, they suffer from mental illness. Now regardless of whether or not this is true (it probably is true in many cases), I think this isn't necessarily a good concept to use in the treatment of these individuals. Why? Because if we view them as victims of an illness, the next logical step is to try to cure them. When these attempts to cure them fail (which they usually do), more innocent people suffer for it.

In the cases I read up on, many of these people were caught, tried, convicted, and imprisoned for their crimes. After a short term in prison, the convict is declared "rehabilitated" and released back into the general population, where he promptly kills again - sometimes hours after his release. In rare cases, the same criminal is literally tried and imprisoned for assault/murder multiple times, each time being declared "rehabilitated" and released, only to kill yet again.

Worse still, let's consider what a prison society is like. A seriously disturbed and violent individual is thrown into an environment filled with other people equally or even more violent and sociopathic than himself. There are numerous cases of violent criminals befriending each other in prison, and after their subsequent releases, "teaming up" to commit more murders even more appalling than the ones they were originally arrested for.

A person working on his own can be violent and ruthless to be sure. But these violent crime cases relate in many ways to the military. Its common knowledge that a team of soldiers who know and trust each other will perform better in combat than a group of strangers. Likewise, a pair of sociopaths will encourage each other to even greater and bolder feats of violence on their victims.

So what's my point? We need to take a step back and seriously reevaluate the philosophy of our justice system. The purpose of the law enforcement and judicial branches of the government should be to protect the people, not condone arrogant psychiatrists' science projects.
