One was a girl in critical condition, and will most likley be a vegtable for the rest of her life. The other is a guy he is recovering, but will need some help in certain tasks.

RICHMOND, Calif. (CBS/AP) Police believe as many as a dozen people watched a 15-year-old girl get beaten and gang-raped outside Richmond High School in California at a homecoming dance without reporting it.

"She was raped, beaten, robbed and dehumanized by several suspects who were obviously OK enough with it to behave that way in each other's presence," Lt. Mark Gagan said. "What makes it even more disturbing is the presence of others. People came by, saw what was happening and failed to report it."

Police sources told CBS Affiliate CBS 5 that some of the bystanders laughed as the attack unfolded while others took photos with their cell phones.

The victim remained hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Manuel Ortega, 19, was arrested at the scene on Friday and was being held on $800,000 bail for investigation of rape and robbery. He is not a student at the school.

Richmond police Sgt. David Harris did not know if Ortega had retained an attorney.

Police said the girl left the dance and was walking to meet her father for a ride home when a classmate invited her to join a group drinking in the courtyard. The victim had drank a large amount of alcohol by the time the assault began, police said.

Officers received a tip about a possible assault on campus and found the girl semi-conscious near a picnic table.

Marin Trujillo, a spokesman for the West Contra Costa Unified School District, said there were four police officers and three school administrators monitoring the dance, but the assault happened away from the gym.

A second arrest was made late Monday. A 15-year-old student was booked on one count of sexual assault. But authorities say as many as five more men attacked the girl.

Ok. Girl went to homecomming dance, was waiting for her dad to pick her up*, then was gangraped and beaten.

Horrible story.

But, alot of stories overlook the *. The astrisk being, she started drinking large amounts of alcohol, clearly underage, around a bunch of guys. And I am willing to bet she wasn't dressed very conservatively either, being a high school girl coming from a dance.

So, you know what? Hold those accountable for the rape and beating, but I fault the girl on this as well, for putting herself in the compromising situation. Im not going to go all the way and say "this was solely the girls' fault", but I will say she did, in a way, bring this on herself.

If this was a girl walking to the parking lot and was attacked out of nowhere, then its all on the rapists. But when you are going to put yourself in a bad position, I hold you accountable for that just as much as the guys who committed the act. She shouldnt have been drinking. She shouldnt have been in a dimly lit area with a bunch of other guys who had been drinking. And I am going to make an assumption that she was probably dressed a bit slutty. (Could be wrong). But she is not a total victim here, in my opinion.

Flame away, I know its bound to happen.

Washington - Scientists gathered here on Monday to discuss what once was only a theory in science fiction books - a space lift that would revolutionise how humans and equipment are sent beyond the Earth's atmosphere.

The space lift would climb 100 000km, and would be built with carbon nanotubes which are 10 000 times thinner than a human hair but 100 times stronger than steel. The idea would entail building a one-metre-wide ribbon that is wafer-thin and would be attached to a platform in the Pacific Ocean, about 2 000km off the coast of Ecuador.

A lift would then climb the ribbon to the desired height. The lift, if built, would take humans and equipment into space for a fraction of the cost of a space shuttle. It could carry up to five tons. Bradely Edwards, a pioneer in space exploration, has said the lift could be completed in 15 years.

So I was doing some cleaning in my room and I came across an briefcase. In this briefcase there are a number of knick-knacks my uncle kept, mostly collectibles which I'd seen once before. He had given this briefcase to me when he left the country as my own.

However while checking the contents, I noticed an envelope I didn't see before. This envelope was marked with the words of "Revenue Canada Customs and Excise". My uncle had lived in Canada for a number of years, and brought this over the border with him when he immigrated.

Within was some interesting money from around the world, most of them old. I'm not sure about their authenticity, but they're interesting to look at.

Note that in some cases of these they'll be marked with a printing company. This doesn't mean they are reprints, but rather that the country at the time had contracted a foreign company to print their money. This was common for many developing countries in the 1950s.

This first one is a Confederate note

Japanese 10 Centavo note... I'm guessing this is from when Japan was occupying the Philippines?

I'm not quite sure what this is, but I guess it was a form of currency that was good at US military bases across the world. From what wikipedia says, the US used this to pay their soldiers while they were on foreign bases as way to prevent the dollar from inflating.

Turkish 20000 Lira from 1970- it doesn't seemed to've changed much. Still has picture of GLORIOUS LEADER (Ataturk) as it does currently.

'So I picked up my guitar today. I decided "I'm going to learn a Dethklok song." So I head over to ultimate-guitar.com. Type Dethklok into the search bar, and up comes all of the tabs available. I click on Go into the Water. Turns out, whoever has the rights to Dethklok songs has requested the UG take down the tabs. So I checked their other songs. All of them were down. This is a travesty.

So I wonder: What reason could a record label have for not letting people learn to play the songs? Is it really that bad? I do find this somewhat ironic, seeing as the latest episode was of the band selling out. But this is still a real pain in the ass.

I actually thought this was a fake, but looking at this guy's channel, holy hell!

Seriously, I'm all for Youtube videos of actual valid critisism, with valid points and calm, collected sentences, understanding if someone gets dissapointed by it - but what the hell is with this 19 year old guy?

Do you punch a wall everytime you remember Duke Nukem Forever?

Do you fail to get all of the most alcoholic and badboy drink in the world (milk) in your mouth instead of around it, and forget to wipe your mouth before making a video?

Do you think that putting a video of you bitching and moaning about a game you played for an entire day (not counting sleep) adds to your apparent 'I'll knock you out cause I can make a video in a hoody'-ness?

What the fuck happened to British pride? Can't we shoot him for treason or something?

Although seeing him punch so weak that he not only injures himself but fails to make a sound on the wall or make the shelf overflowed with shit shake is rather amusing, and the crying just made it hilarious

Thoughts?

This is a bit by Elon Gold that aired on The Jay Leno show last night sort of done in Jay's "Jay Walking" theme. Gold portrays himself as "Super Duper Nanny" and shows just how dense people here can be when they think they're listening to a trained professional with an English accent. It pretty much sums up the psychology behind American infomercials too.

I have to say, though this had me in stitches, I couldn't help but think how true it is. If the Red Coats had come as midwife spies plotting to brainwash the colonists instead of marching soldiers we'd no doubt be under British rule today.
Before you post your request there are a few things you need to remember. First of all be sure to search the forum Members List to see if your desired name has already been taken (banned names are not available even though do not appear on the list, and members with zero posts don't show up on the list either). If you pick a name that is already in use, your request will be ignored!
Also notice that we do not delete inactive accounts just so you can get the name - if your dream name is already taken, you just aren't creative enough...
Please, post only requests in this thread, and make sure the requests look like the following as it will make everything easier for me:

Current Name: XXXX
Desired Name: XXXX

As always, choose your name with care since you are stuck with it for quite some time once this amnesty closes.

This name changing anmesty will close Monday the 7th of December 2009

Okay, I can understand a lower limit on the number of characters but why an upper one? And why no symbols or spaces? It seems a reasonably long string of gobeldigook drawing from as wide an input range as possible would make the best passwords. Instead you're stuck with a relatively short password, often created by essentially scrambling names into numbers; which anyone who makes a decent password masher could guess much more quickly.

Why?... :Puzzled:

So the news last night even had a few minute piece on midnight releases for Call of Duty mw2.

Ive never done these, but Im trying to figure out why anyone would.

Its midnight, and you are going to sit and wait in the cold just to get your copy as early as possible. Then you go home, and its maybe 1 AM, and you play it? Loosing out on sleep? Or you let it sit by your console of choice until you get home the NEXT day from work/school, and then play it?

Why not just wait until after school, then go buy it? You wont fuck your sleep, and you still start playing it at about the same time.

I ordered mine online and had it overnighted.

I know my sister went to DVD release parties for twilight (but shes retarded and I hope the general population does not reflect her).

Has anyone ever gone to a midnight release?

So I am wondering if there is any correlation between eating food and dreaming.

Case in point, for the last week, I will have a light snack before bed (like a lunchable or something), and I will seem to have very vivid dreams (or for some reason I just remember them better).

Last night I had a dream that I was visiting Miley Cyrus while she was shooting a movie, and then I was trying to get her kicked out of the Marine Corps.

Not sure if there is a connection between that and me watching the miley cyrus episode of Family Guy an hour beforehand, or what. Maybe food keeps you awake enough to remember the dreams better?

Guard 'simply drives off with cash' in €11m heist

THE biggest French cash robbery in recent years was a non-violent affair: Tony Musulin, a security guard, apparently simply drove off with the money while his two colleagues were inside the central Lyons branch of the Banque de France.

Police found the empty vehicle, which belongs to the Swedish security firm Loomis, two hours later, parked neatly in a side street in a suburb of the city. Its satellite tracking system and telephone link had been switched off and its contents, about 40 sacks of banknotes totalling €11m, were missing.

Police initially suspected that robbers may have taken the driver hostage. However, they said they had found signs that Mr Musulin (39) had planned the robbery carefully.

"We went to search this lad's home and were surprised to discover a flat that was almost unoccupied. It was cleaned up as if he had prepared his flight," Xavier Richaud, the Lyons prosecutor, said. Simple and effective really. Apparantly many people see him as a "hero" for outmsarting "the authorities". :uhm:
French join up to fan club after security guard pulls audacious robbery without a shot fired

for ten years Tony Musulin worked for the Loomis security firm in France. The 39-year-old had a spotless record and apparently led a dull life. But that all changed on Thursday morning after a routine pick-up from a branch of the Banque de France in Lyon.

Musulin, along with two colleagues, had collected around €11.6m (approximately £10.3m) from the bank before driving to a second bank for another collection. Musulin stayed inside the van while his two assistants disappeared inside; when the pair came out a few minutes later, the van - and Musulin - were nowhere to be seen.

Three hours later the van was found abandoned and lunchtime news bulletins spoke of a heist in which a security guard had been kidnapped. By Friday morning, however, another scenario had emerged. Police now suspected that far from being held hostage by a ruthless gang of robbers, Musulin was secreted in a safe house surrounded by 49 sacks of cash and sporting a very broad smile.

It has since been claimed that Musulin, thought to be acting alone, planned his daylight robbery well, choosing a day when he was the senior of the three guards, and when the money for collection was in new bills of which the bank had no record.

In addition, Musulin had cleared out his own bank accounts and removed any incriminating documents from his modest apartment.

Musulin's colleagues have since spoken of a "rather odd" man, who rarely socialised with them and spent much of his spare time working out at a local gym or moaning about his lot in life. "He found it very unfair that we were badly paid," a colleague explained on national radio. "He said the other day, 'They'll pay - the bank, the bosses. We'll have them'."

One aspect of the case exercising investigators is how a man on a monthly salary of €2,000 was able to buy a €160,000 Ferrari last April. "A modest wage but a big expenditure, obviously it's something that concerns us," said a police spokesman. As for his own bank accounts, which Musulin emptied in the last week of October, police would like to know how they came to contain around €100,000.

Meanwhile, Musulin's crime has touched a revolutionary nerve in the national psyche and his audacity is being lauded on the internet. By Sunday more than 1,500 people had signed up to a 'Tony Musulin fan club' on Facebook with his supporters praising a non-violent robbery for which, even if he is caught, he faces only three to five years in prison.

Others have asked what the difference is between Musulin's crime and that of some of the world's bankers. T-shirts are also for sale on the internet - for €22 - with a picture of Musulin's face above the slogan 'Best Driver of 2009'.

Perhaps the mood of the nation is best summed up by a comment posted on the site of the daily newspaper Le Parisien: "Good move, well pulled off."
