Gravity, American Hustle, 12 Years a Slave, and The Wolf of Wall Street picked up many nominations, including for the more prized categories. Looking at the media the biggest snubs and surprises were considered to be:

-Neither Robert Redford nor Tom Hanks got acknowledgement for their roles in All is Lost or Captain Philips respectively.

-A rare time when a Pixar movie doesn't get a nod for animated feature

-The Butler didn't get anything

-Coen Bros. Inside Llewyn Davis got less nominations than expected

-Dallas Buyers' Club got more love than expected

-Her got a good share of nods, though this isn't translating into a better performance in theaters.

God, that's a lot of movies I haven't seen >_<

I may have some catching up to do. But at the very least, I'm sort of glad Hobbit didn't get slotted for anything more than effects. Honestly? Even the special effects looked really bad at times.

Now I have to go see all these movies so I can have my favorite and bitch and moan about the Oscars being rigged and liberal self-aggrandizement when my picks don't win.

Same here. Most of the names don't tell me anything. I'd like to watch "12 years a slave" though.

I'd've linked them to a wikipage but it would've been a bit time consuming on my end. As far as the big hitters are concerned though they were largely the same as the Golden Globes, though American Hustle got more love from the Academy people than in the Golden Globes.

I haven't seen 12 Years a Slave but I read the memoir it was based off a while ago back in 2007 or so.

You can keep a track of Oscars results here. Jared Leto has won the first one for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Dallas Buyers' Club.

The only movies I've seen this year aren't even worthy of being nominated for an award. The Wolverine was the worst of the worst.

This is bullshit, 12 Years just got the white guilt vote! Nebraska was quintessential Americana!
