Alexander

Ok - so yet another version of the movie Alexander is coming out on the 27th this month. It's a "Final Cut" and has over 45 mins of extra, re-cut, and re-edited footage in it that's suuposed to make it better than the other two versions of the DVD.

There seem to be two different sides of the Alexander critics...there are the ones who saw it as a truthful and well made film and the majority (the ones who despised it) called it out on all it's faults.

People in favor of the movie make the point that the majority of the viewers out there couldnt comprehend or bring themselevs to accept the whole Greek "way of life"....in other words the projecting of Alexander being b-sexual, surrounded by feminine looking men and engaging in relationships with a few of them.

Personally I didnt have a problem with the whole bi-sexual thing seeing as how I have no doubts that the Greek culture was like that. I mostly didnt like the movie b/c of 3 major flaws:

1) Forget the whole Alex was bi-sexual thing b/c in the theatrical version of the film they just make him appear staright up homosexual...they kind of hammered the whole "I like men" thing way too much

2) The length of the movie...the regular theatrical version was LONG and when it's a movie that spends most of its time commenting on the conquer's sexuality it only seems longer

3) The lack of action...in the 3 or so hours of the movie we see what? Two battles? This is a movie about ALEXANDER THE GREAT...a man who conquered the WHOLE KNOWN WORLD against a determined and powerful Persian empire...to do the man any justice at all there would need to be more battles, more action, more maniless (lol)

I've been thinking that I should give the film a second shot and maybe look into this Final Cut edition that's coming out. What does everyone else think about Alexander? Was it trash? Was it accurate? Did you enjoy it? Did you hate it? Should it never have been made? Should it be re-made? what?

personally i hated it, the battle scenes were poorly shot and you actually saw very little action you saw people running and falling over but no proper sword fights or people being impaled. i genuinly dont like this film at all, i dont mind the bi sexuality of the characters but as you said it seems to focus on alexanders sexuality more than why he was remebered.

I thought the battle scenes were ok...the one in the desert was pretty cool from what I remembered and the other Indian one was somewhat enjoyable until Alexander got injured and the screen went that annoyingly bright red color...

My major grief with the movie was the lack of action and the time....the LOOOOONG movie took forever to watch and I wanted my money's worth but at what price?

I watched a bit of it and it was so shit in my opinion. The main actor who played Alexander couldn't do the accent very well either. And that last battle I saw was bloody retarted. It goes all purple and pink and stuff :S. Crappy movie.

The Revisited version of the DVD is meant to really retool the movie, instead of just adding a few deleted scenes, Oliver stone has actually restructures the movie, and adds in verious content that was made to be cut out of the theatrical release for reasons beyond his control. I always thought the story of alexander couldn't really be caught in one movie, more along the lines of a 3 part series, so I was not surprised by the length of the movie & I did not find myself bored during it. I'm hoping to get the new dvd anyways for those tickets to see 300.

btw oliver stone is taking questions at the myspace page for the movie.
