That trailer looks damn pimp. I hope the movie can match this level of pimpage. Most of the time they'll make a trailer made just to attract people to a awful movie.

IIRC when tehy arrived on earth they scanned the local technology and assumed the shape of earth based technology as a way of blending in.

Yeah. They came from a planet name Cybertron. The Decepticons (evil) took it over, so the Autobots (good) fled to earth, but the Decepticons followed.

Beyond that, I have no clue of their origins. I don't see how a machine race and a machine planet could exist without organic involvement. The only other option is that God created them as well as us. Anyway, that's off topic.
