How to like both Star Wars and Star Trek

Simple. DON'T COMPARE THEM. It's the apples and oranges principle. To summarize my meaning as briefly as possible…

Star Wars takes place in an entirely fictional setting where science as we know it does not apply. I believe the beginning premise of "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" by itself is meant to make that clear immediately.
However, it deals with themes of morality that we can relate to, such as redemption, temptation, and the struggle between good and evil.

Star Trek takes a more "realistic" approach to science fiction. It's set in an idealistic future (as opposed to something like Mad Max) and has a timeline directly related to Earth, mankind, and the galaxy as we know it. Physics and other such things still apply in a way that we are largely familiar with. There are no flashy lightsabers or midiclorians, or all-powerful controlling Force. Though this does not make it "superior" to Star Wars, nor do I mean to imply that none Star Trek's stuff is far-fetched, it's definitely dissimilar to Star Wars in the way it’s presented. Star Trek deals ethical concepts too, but also not in the same way as Star Wars. The good guy/bad guy thing isn't always so clear cut.

I enjoy Star Trek and Star Wars equally. I don’t measure them against each other because they are really nothing alike, and there’s no reason why anyone can’t be a fan of both.
