Default Writing a Noir.

I've been inspired by Sin City and Max Payne 1/2 (Mostly 1 but I just started 2 so that's the one that got me motivated) to write and direct my own Noir with the help of some friends.

I need a story and a script. I'll write the majority of the dialogue. A big problem I've run into though is that, like most Noirs, it'll be narrated by the characters, and to write all that is going to be extremely difficult. I don't know how I would keep the narration fresh for over an hour. It won't be feature length, becasue I'm too lazy, I'm thinking 40-50 minutes, although if we like it enough, we could make it feature length, I really don't want it to drag though. I'll be watching several Noirs throughout the next few weeks to get ideas. Movies suck as Fritz Lang's M, Ingmar Birgman's The Third Man, Akira Kurosawa's Straw Dogs. These'll get me in the right mind set I think.

I think my main problem overall is my and my friend's ages. I'm 17 and the other 3 actors would only be 17,18 and 21. I'll have to do some tricky camera work to make them and myself seem older. And seeing as how the movie will be gritty, full of bad language and a TON of styalized/glorified violence (I got this notion from Man Bites Dog). I think It'll be in black and white also, mainly because I'll be using a crappy Mini DV camera to shoot it. I think with the right shutter settings and color tricks I can give it a cool style and feel. I've come up with a couple titles.

My favorite being: Noir York City (Two problems stem from this name though, first off, I live in a small town, making it difficult for me to simulate a large city. The second is that this title was used in Max Payne 2 in the fun house stage, hopefully no lawsuits would come out of it.)

Other possible titles:
Noiria (A play on the word Noir and impossible to pronounce)
The Life of Noir
Basically anything with the word Noir (Any suggestions?)

It will also have a fantastic soundtrack, I think, that I've started putting together. Any suggestions for songs would be appreciated as well.

If anyone has any ideas for catchy phrases I could use for dialogue, feel free to suggest some. I want mainly though to have a good story and then build the diologue off of that. So please suggest a simple plot that I could build off of. I want something perhaps involving some corrupt police, revenge, conspiracy, betrayel, basically a common Noir story. The direction, in my opinion, will be spot on, taking influences from Terintino, Rodriguez and others. It'll be mainly Action/Noir/Dark Comedy.

As soon as I write the script and screenplay, I'll post it to get some feedback. This is quite an ambitious project that me and my friends are taking, we may even enter it in a local film festival if we like it enough.

Hm...yes, I wouldn't go for Noir York City if you live in a small town....
I'd suggest you take "Noiria"....it has a good ring to it.

or how about "the noir of day"?

I think I'm gonna go with Noiria or Noir York City.
I need some good characer names. I've come up with Peter Finfeild, Richard V, Philip B. and Williams. For a story I've thought up something like an ex cop who commits a seemingly self defense murder while defending his diner, then finds out a contract was put out on him, so he goes to the police for help. something something something, I've kinda drawn a blank in this area.
