Why don't we build a new engine?! Because we've got enought (2 coders including myself) work programming in the new MP gametypes and weapon animation stuff that everyone wants, let alone coding a new engine that would take several years and not be half (excuse the pun) as good as Quake III or Half Life II

I no its very very very early yet but how long after HL2 will this mod be released?, it sounds like its going to be 1 hell off a mod

Hangon, I'm a bit of a n00b in these things but, EF3 is not going to be in stores? But you have to purchase it online? Or just download it? And you need Half Life 2 on your PC to play EF3? Isn't there a way to COPY the engine of half life 2 and modify the copy? Or can't you make a new engine? Half life made a new engine, Quake made a new engine, other games made new engines, why not Elite Force III?

Look all, were making EF3 because if we don't there WONT be an EF3 for a LONG LONG time...if ever. And by that time there will be no EF community left. We are using the HL2 engine because it has a varity of features that we think EF3 will need. Including waaaaaay better graphics. If we used the AGING Q3 engine that both EF and EF2 use it wouldn't be much of an EF3 now would it? If we were to make our own engine the graphics might not even look as good as EF1 and would take us a whole lot longer to make the game. The fact of the matter is, is that yes EF2 does have better graphics than EF1 but MP just doesnt have the same "feel" as our beloved EF1. So basicly what were doing is making EF3 with the same fast and ferious feel as EF1 but with more up-to-date graphics. There will also be new stuff also however, and perhaps even some vehicles....

And think of it this way, when you go out and buy HL2 you are actually buying EF3 along with it, HL2 is the EF3 platform. So your getting TWO great games for $50!! Whats better than that? So thank us for spending our time to bring you this great game by going out and buying HL2 and downloading EF3.

Not only 2 game while buying HL2... If you go check HL2Files.com you will see that there is already plenty of mod team getting up to make PLENTY of mod for HL2.

Making a new engine? Impossible. Would take age, and at the end, it would suck compare to even the old Q3 one.

We will use HL2 engine for many reason. Graphic, can be easily modify, and many many amazing feature. (Vehicule, normal map, etc.)

We can't sell it, EULA is against that.
So, you will be able to freely download it.

I expect the whole creation process to take at least a year. HOWEVER, we will release it in part. The MP will come out first, and you can maybe expect it around 4-5 month after the release of HL2.
