Default Morrowind - new player

Hi, I'm very new to Morrowind (my character just got to lvl 2), and I am frustrated with having to constantly sell almost all my stuff except my weapons/armor, due to being too heavy. Is there any place I can store my stuff permanently, such as an 'unoccupied' house? I want to get into potion-making a bit more, but it's a bit hard when you have to watch your weight.

I was also wondering how huge Morrowind really is. I've gotten about as far north as Balmora, but it looks a bit gray any further north. Does Morrowind really cover the entire island shown in the world map?

Last, I'm looking to join the thieves guild(or some other bad-guy guild), but I don't know where it is. Can someone tell me which city it's in? Will joining the fighters guild make joining the thieves guild impossible, or vise versa?

The questions are big issues for me right now, especially the first one, so any help would be awesome, thanks!

You can store much of your items in baskets and similar other objects in the game. However, it's not always the best solution. You can also kill the owner of a house, and claim it as your own. Be cautious that you do not kill an important NPC though.

Yes, Morrowind is quite huge, but not bigger than Oblivion. It really takes a long time if you want to travel from location to location by foot. Use the Silk Strider to explore more if you prefer.

You can join multiple guilds. However, I haven't tried that myself, so I'm not 100% certain of my statement. The Thieves' Guild is in Balmora, known as the Corner Club, or something similar - I can't remember precisely.

Have fun playing Morrowind! Personally I think exploring things and actually reading what the NPCs have to say, really helps. You should try that as well.

Yea, I got all the help I need on another (more active) forum, but thanks for your advice. I currently have 2 small houses claimed as my own, though I hope I haven't killed any important NPC's. I imagine important NPC's would be hard to kill though, but from now on I'll be more careful.

I also joined the thieves guild, but am stuck at the part where I have to give the "sweet tooth" guy the they key to the manor. I talked to the Saavor guy, but he didn't give me any options to persuade him to give me the key. My thieving lvl is too low to pickpocket the owner of the manor, so the only option right now is to kill him, which renders your reward obsolete. Will increasing a lvl allow me to pickpocket him? If so, what lvl is it and how should I train it?

I'm sorry, but I'm not quite sure what level the NPC is. However, I do know that leveling your character and/or skills will help your character's stealth skills immensely. Personally I've killed the owner of the Manor in order to get the key.
But, if you consider to kill him anyways, do not attack him first, or you'll cause the guards to attack you. Just keep choosing 'Taunt' when talking to the Manor owner, and he'll eventually attack you first. If, and when he does that, the guards won't attack you, as you have the right the defend yourself.

Also, if you're worrying about gold rewards; there are more than enough quests to increase the output of your wealth.

So it's just a gold reward? I've got enough places to get that. You say the stealth skill is required to successfully pickpocket someone? Do you know how you I can train it, or is it simply by sneaking (crouching) around?

If I remember correctly, the leader of the Thieves' Guild, the Kajit, rewards you with a high amount of gold (not that high). I guess you can get gold from other quests instead. You can increase your skills by visiting a trainer. They're most of the times around at Major Capital Cities, Ald'Rhun, Balmora, etc.
I guess sneaking around helps a bit, but not that much at all.

you shouldn't be here. Go out there and discover the world that is still unknown to you! Just remember to follow the quest line. I didn't at first time and got quite a negative picture of morrowind. now im loving it.

Good luck, new one

The exact same thing happened to me. The quest line seemed way too hard and I was completely unknown to the game-play. However, at last I began to get used to it, and took interest into the game. Finally I took the chance to complete it.
So, as Orchidea says; explore, explore, explore! You'll discover some amazing things, most certainly!

Well, I believe that owning a house, knowing that dropped items won't disappear, and being in the thieves guild will make Morrowind a bit more enjoyable, since I really don't like to read books that much, and usually sell them. I actually am very lucky that I happened to find a book on potion making, which I plan on using excessively. As for the main quest, I'm going to forget about for a while until I explore some of the world and advance a bit in the thieves guild. I'm not worried about it right now though.

I'll post screenshots of my house later, but for now, it's not quite finished.
